국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 고등학생의 증명에 대한 인식 및 증명 수행의 실제를 조사하여 증명 수행과 관련해 학생들이 겪고 있는 어려움을 파악하고 나아가 증명 교육을 위한 시사점을 얻고자 하는데 있다. 이를 위해 427명의 고등학교 2, 3학년 학생들을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문지는 증명의 의미와 기능, 증명 유형에 대한 인식을 분석하기 위한 문항과 학생들이 증명을 수행할 때 드러나는 증명 유형, 증명 스킴 유형을 조사하기 위한 문항으로 구성하였다. 분석 결과에서 고등학생들이 지닌 증명에 대한 의미 및 기능에 대한 인식의 폭은 매우 좁은 것으로 드러났다. 또한 학생 들은 경험적 증명 유형과 해설적 증명 유형에 의존하지만 그것의 한계를 인식하고 있었다. 증명 수행 분석 결과에서 학생들은 낮은 증명 수행 능력을 보였으며 학생들의 기본 정보에 따라 증명의 실제에 차이가 있었다. 따라서 증명의 의미와 다양한 기능을 경험할 수 있는 교육이 필요하며 경험적 증명이 연역적 증명이 될 수 없다는 것을 학생들에게 좀 더 분명히 인식시키고, 대수적 번역 능력을 키울 수 있는 충분한 경험을 제공해야 하겠다. 또한 증명 학습의 어려움 해소를 위해 학생들의 특징 및 환경적 요인에 부합하는 증명 교육이 이루어지도록 해야 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate high school students’ views of mathematical proof and proof construction, to grasp the students difficulties related to performances in proof construction, and to obtain implications for the proof education. For this study, 427 high-school students were surveyed. The questionnaire consisted of questions to analyze the meaning and the function of the proof, and the forms of proof recognised by the students and questions to investigate students proof construction by analyzing the forms of proof and the proof scheme. The results show that students’ views of the meaning and functions of the proof are narrow. Also, students were dependent on empirical proof and explanatory proof but were aware of its limitations. The students showed low ability to perform proof construction, and according to the informations of the students, there were differences in proof-construction ability. To improve students’ ability of proof-construction, mathematics educators need to make students aware of the fact that empirical evidence can not be a deductive proof and provide enough experience to represent mathematical ideas using symbols and letters. In order to solve the difficulties of proof learning we should reflect the characteristics of the students and the environmental factors surrounding them on teaching methods.
