자유선택활동시간을 중심으로 살펴본 유아의 ‘참여’에 대한 의미 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구는 자유선택활동 시간동안 유아의 참여 범위 및 수준이 어떻게 나타나고 있는지, 왜 그렇게 나타나고 있는지 살펴봄으로써 유아교육현장에서 유아의 참여가 의미하는 것이 무엇인지, 유아의 참여를 촉진하기 위한 방향이 무엇인지 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 본 연구의 목적을 위하여 학급 내 자유선택활동 시간 동안 나타나는 유아의 참여에 대해 참여관찰을 실시하였고, 학급 담임 교사와 면담을 통해 유아의 참여 의미를 더욱 깊이 이해하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 유아의 참여 범위는 교사, 유아, 활동유형, 학급 규칙 등 다양한 상황, 맥락에 의해 영향에 따라 다르게 나타나고 있었으며, 유아의 참여 수준은 범위에 따라 다르게 나타나고 있었다. 유아의 참여가 보다 넓은 범위에서, 높은 수준으로 나타날 때는 교사와 유아, 유아와 유 아 간 서로의 목소리, 관점을 존중할 때, 보다 개방적이고, 융통적인 놀이를 할 때, 유아의 발달수준, 흥미, 특성에 적절한 다양한 활동 및 교사의 상호작용이 뒷받침될때였다. 반면 유아의 참여가 제한된 범위 안에서, 낮은 수준으로 나타날 때는 유아의 목소리에 비해 교사의 목소리가 더 크게 활동, 놀이에 반영될 때, 학급 규칙에 의해놀이 범위가 제한적일 때, 유아의 발달수준, 흥미에 적합하지 않은 활동 또는 교사의 상호작용이 일어날 때로 나타나고 있었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to investigate the extent and level of participation of young children during the free choice play time, and to understand why they are so, what are the implications of early childhood education and how to promote the participation of young children. For the purpose of this study, participation observation was carried out on the participation of young children during free choice play time in the classroom. As a result, the range of participation of young children was different according to various situations and contexts such as teacher, infant, activity type, classroom rule, etc. Children s participation appears at a broader, higher level when children’s development level, interest, and characteristics were appropriately reflected. Also children’s higher participation were seen when playing within more open and flexible environment and when teacher and children are respecting each others’ view and voice. On the other hand, when the participation level of the children appeared low when the teacher’s voice were more reflected in the activities than that of children’s. Also lower participation appeared while rather limited class rules were reflected in children’s play and when teacher interaction occur in inappropriate way.
