의학전문대학원 교수와 학생의 강의실 좌석에 대한 경험적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 의학전문대학원의 교수와 학생이 강의실에서 학생의 좌석 위치에 따라 학생에 대한 교수의 인식이 차이가 있다고 생각하는지, 또 좌석 위치와 좌석이동 여부에 따라 학업성취도에 차이가 있다고 생각하는지를 분석하고, 실제 그 인식들을 경험적으로 검증하는 것이다. 연구결과, 교 수와 학생은 공통적으로 좌석 위치에 따라 교수가 학생에게 갖는 인식이 다르다고 인식하였다. 교수 는 중앙 앞쪽 좌석에 앉은 학생들이 뒤쪽 출입구 쪽에 앉은 학생들보다 학업성취도가 가장 좋을 것 이라 인식하였고, 좌석이동을 하지 않는 학생들이 좌석이동을 하는 학생보다 학업성취도가 좋을 것으 로 인식하였다. 학생들은 좌석 위치나 좌석이동여부에 따라 학업성취도는 차이가 없다고 인식하였다. 그러나 실제 확인한 결과, 학생들의 인식하는 것과 같이 좌석 위치와 좌석이동여부에 따른 학업성취 도는 유의미한 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 교수들은 좌석에 대한 통념적인 인식만으로 학생에 대한 편견을 갖거나 학생의 학업성취도를 예측하지 않도록 좌석에 따른 인식들의 전환이 필요하다. 또 교수들은 학생들을 다양한 시각을 통해 이해하고, 학생들이 수업에 적극적으로 참여할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는 등의 지속적인 노력이 필요하다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to analyze whether professors and students at a school of medicine perceive there is a difference in the professors’ view on the students based on where they sit in the classroom, and whether they think there is a difference in academic achievement level based on the location and movement of the seats, and to verify this perception empirically. The results showed that professors and students both perceived that professor’s view on students differs based on the location of the seats. Professors perceived that students seated in the center-front seats have better academic achievement level than the students seated near the back exit. They also perceived that students who do not move their seats have better academic achievement level than those who do. Students perceived that there would not be differences in academic achievement level based on the location or movement of the seats. However, the actual results confirmed that academic achievement level did not show any significant difference regardless of location or movement of the seats. Therefore, professors need to change their mindset related to the seats so that they can avoid having bias against students or predicting students’ academic achievement level. In addition, professors need to make continuous efforts, such as understanding students through various points of view and exploring ways for the students to participate in class actively.
