영문 초록

This paper makes an attempt to review the sublime beauty of Sindansu, a tree found in the Dangun Myth. The results of the discussion are summarized as follows. Firstly, the study raised the issue of the limited scope of the signifiant Sindansu within the religious morphological language of the previous studies, and tried to secure the aesthetic language of sublimity related to Sindansu in its discussion. The study is expected to send a shockwave to the structure of the religious morphological language surrounding Sindansu by offering a layer of new aesthetic signifiant to the Sindansu signifiant. Secondly, it was found that Sindansu had become a medium for running the mechanism of psychological and aesthetic sublimity, which was very dynamic and passionate. Simply put, the formlessness of the colossal Sindansu works as a medium of motion to forge a unity for the failure met in the synthesis of imagination. The motion initiated via the medium of Sindansu overcomes the pain and withdrawal of failure, and moves towards a collaboration between reason and imagination, which is an attempt to synthesize infinity and further the aesthetic experience of sublimity through an encounter with an object of absolute massiveness or a moral and transcendent object. This series of psychological and aesthetic mechanism was clarified in the study. Finally, the object on the inner side of the absolute massiveness offering the sublime experiences of Sindansu can be replaced by the univocity of life including actual emptiness and nothingness, which was demonstrated in the study through the quotes of Chamjang meditation. Sindansu is thus, a medium of a natural ecological world that drives motion to ensure that an existential being who is infinitely small and slight, highly prone to wounds before death, and alone with no help is able to encounter a noble and sacred existence or a life of great univocity.
