국문 초록

본 연구는 스마트폰 앱을 활용한 분절음 중심의 발음교육이 중학교 학습자의 듣기능력과 발음능력에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연구대상은 중학교 1학년 학생 86명이며 시·도교육청 공동 주관 듣기능력 평가지와 자체 제작된 발음능력 검사지를 사용하여 2019년 7월부터 11월까지 수업설계 및 분석을 진행하였다. 자료처리는 SPSS 25 프로그램을 활용하였으며 독립표본 t-검정으로 분석하였다. 본 연구에 대한 결과로 수업 전 구성에 걸쳐서 스마트폰 앱을 사용하여 분절음 발음 교육을 받은 학습자들의 듣기능력의 향상은 하위 집단의 듣기능력 향상에 한정되어 나타났다. 발음 능력은 학습자들의 발음 능력 중 이해가능성(intelligibility)과 이해도(comprehensibility)에 유의미한 향상이 있었다. 사후 이해가능성 측정 검사에서 평균점수의 차이가 통계적으로 유의미하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of using smartphone applications in teaching English segments on middle school students’ listening ability. This study also tries to discover how English pronunciation teaching using smartphone applications could have influence on students’ pronunciation ability, specifically in terms of intelligibility and comprehensibility. The subjects of this study were 86 first grade middle school students in four classes. Four classes were divided into two groups. The students in ‘the experimental group’ took part in English language classes using smartphone applications. The students in ‘the comparison group’ participated in traditional English language classes. The results of the research revealed that that low level students’ listening ability improves after using smartphone applications in class. Also, it is verified that there were effects on students’ pronunciation ability especially intelligibility and comprehensibility. By using the smartphone applications in English pronunciation class, it is helpful for the students to get personalized education to practice pronunciation by themselves. Moreover, further research is needed on utilizing various smartphone applications, regardless of the type of smartphone, in English pronunciation class. Also, in promoting research, researchers should consider focusing on the development of educational smartphone applications and the study of practicing English pronunciation within the context.
