한국 대학원생의 읽기 전략 지도 전과 후의 책략사용과 인식에 관한 사례 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 영어 읽기 전략을 활용한 읽기 지도 전과 후 대학원생들의 영어 읽기 책략사용과 인식을 살펴보고자 한다. 이를 위해 7명의 교양영어를 수강하는 대학원생이 10주 동안 연구에 참여하여 15가지 읽기 전략을 활용해보고 인식에 대해 생각 해보았다. 연구 조사는 두 종류의 영어 읽기 전략 설문지, 활동지, 일지, C-test를 통하여 학생들의 전략사용과 인식에 대해 분석하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 읽기 전략을 사용하는 영어 읽기 지도는 참여자들의 영어 읽기 학습에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤 다. 첫째, 자신의 생각에 대해 생각하는 기회가 되고, 배경지식을 활용하여 읽기 이해를 도모하고, 정확한 추측을 위해 다른 읽기 전략을 사용하게 되는 계기가 되며, 어휘 이해에 도움을 준다고 했다, 또한, 사고의 확장과 노력을 기울이게 하고, 이해 점검하는 노력을 기울이며, 논리적 흐름 파악에 용이하여, 읽기와 쓰기를 연계시키고, 글의 표면적 및 함축적 의미파악에 도움이 된다고 하였다. 둘째, 참가자들은 영어 읽기 전략에 대한 태도에서 긍정적인 변화를 보여주었다. 처음에는 자신감이 부 족하였으나 읽기 과업, 흥미도, 읽기 전략의 필요와 효과성에서 향상되었음을 보여 주었다. 셋째, 대부분 읽기 전략 중에 모니터링 이해, 담화표지, 훑어읽기, 다시 읽기 전략을 선호했으나 추론하기, 브레인스토밍과 질문하기 전략은 많이 사용하지 않았 다. 넷째, 참가자들은 읽기 전략이 읽기에 도움이 된다고 생각했지만, 대부분이 일반 영어의 기초반이여서 여전히 영어학습을 두려워하였다. 본 연구는 대학원생 교양영어 수강자 7명을 대상으로 한 사례 연구이기 때문에 일반화할 수 없다. 앞으로의 연 구에는 다양한 학습환경에 있는 학습자를 대상으로 읽기 전략 수업을 적용하여 참여자의 읽기 능력 향상 정도를 파악할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

The current study aims to examine effects of reading strategy for Korean graduate students in general English class. Seven graduate students participated in this study for ten weeks. The 15 reading strategies were employed and trained. The study was verified with English reading strategy survey, reading strategy log, and C-test. The findings show that English reading instruction with reading strategy positively influenced on the students’ awareness in the following four aspects. First, it is easy to think about their own thoughts, to promote reading comprehension with their background knowledge, to use different reading strategies for accurate guessing, to help understand vocabulary. Also, it is easy to get the logical flow, to connect reading and writing, and to recogniz the surface and implied meaning of the text. Second, it shows that the participants positively changed their attitudes toward the English reading strategy. They had low confidence in reading before reading strategy project, but their reading performance, interests, the needs of reading strategy and effectiveness improved after reading strategy project. Third, they prefer monitoring understanding, discourse markers, skimming, re-reading, but they do not use a lot with making inferences, brainstorming, and asking question. Fourth, the participants thought the reading strategies were helpful for their reading, but they were still afraid of learning English because they were in the basic level of general English. This study can not be generalized since it is a case study for 7 graduate students. Future research is needed to explore the improvement of reading ability by applying reading strategy instruction in various learning environments.
