대학생의 특성과 학업 중도 탈락의 상관성 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 전북 소재 J대학교의 2009학년도부터 2017학년도까지의 입학생 자료를 대상으로 성별, 출신 고교, 입학 전형 유형 등의 비학력적 특성과 국어, 영어, 수학 성적 등의 학력적 특성이 중도 탈락에 미치는 영향을 분석한 것이다. 그 결과, 성별의 경우 여학생의 탈락률이 남학생의 탈락률보다 낮게 나타났지만 최근에 와서 여학생의 탈락률도 상대적으로 높아지고 있다. 출신 고교의 경우 취업 중심고 졸업생의 탈락률이 매우 높은데 이는 국어, 영어, 수학 등의 기초 학습 능력 의 부족으로 풀이된다. 전형 유형의 경우 학생부 종합전형 입학생의 탈락률이 다른 전형에 비해 상대적으로 낮은데 이는 전공에 대해 관심을 갖고 미리 준비한 학생들이 학과에 대한 만족도나 적응력이 높기 때문으로 해석된다. 또한 중도 탈락자의 학 력이 비탈락자의 학력에 비해 낮은 양상을 보여 학습 능력의 부족이 중도 탈락의 주요 요인으로 판단된다. 특히 공과대학의 경우에는 수학 과목의 성적이 주요 탈락 요인이었다. 한편 남학생의 경우에는 국어 과목의 성적이 중요한 반면, 여학생의 경우 에는 수학 과목의 성적이 중도 탈락률에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 또한 탈락 시기별로 탈락의 주요 요인이 다르게 나타났다. 1학기에 탈락하는 학생들은 학력적인 요인보다는 학교나 학과에 대한 만족도의 부족과 같은 비학력적 요인이 크게 작용하지만 2～3학기에 탈락하는 학생들은 수학 능력의 부족과 같은 학력적 요인이 크게 작용하였다. 한편 5학기에 탈락하는 학생은 타 대학으로의 편입을 위해 이탈한 것으로 추정되었다. 본 연구를 통해 학생들이 중도에서 대학을 떠나는 학력적 특성과 비학력적 특성의 다양한 요인을 확인하고, 이들이 탈락 시기별로 어떻게 영향을 미치는지 그 양상을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 각 대학에서는 이 연구 결과를 바탕으로 신입생의 입학 이후 시기별로 맞춤형 전략을 수립하여 시행함으로써 학생의 교육 만족도를 제고하여 대학이 지속적으로 발전할 수 있도록 해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of non-academic characteristics such as gender, high school type, admission type, and academic characteristics such as Korean language, English, and mathematics grades using the data of students enrolled from 2009 to 2017 in J University. As a result, in terms of non-academic characteristics, the dropout rate of female students was lower than male dropout rate for gender, but recently dropout rate of female students has been relatively higher. In the case of high school type, the dropout rate of job-centered high school graduates is very high because of lack of basic mathematical ability such as Korean, English, and mathematics. In the case of the admission type, the dropout rate of the evaluation centered by admission officer is relatively low compared to the other types. This is interpreted that the students who are interested in the major and prepared in advance have high satisfaction or adaptability to the department. From the viewpoint of academic characteristics, the education level of the dropouts is lower than that of non-dropouts. Overall, the lack of basic learning ability is considered to be a major factor in dropping out. Students who dropped out in 1 semester were mostly dropped out due to lack of satisfaction with the school or department. Students who dropped out in 2~3 semesters were mainly dropped out due to lack of learning ability. Through this study, students were able to identify various factors of the academic and non-academic characteristics of dropping out of the middle school, and how they influenced the dropout period. Therefore, each university should establish a customized strategy for each new student after admission based on the results of this research, so that the satisfaction of the student should be improved and the university should be continuously developed.
