국문 초록

이 연구에서는 한국전쟁기 군가의 창작과 보급 현황, 전쟁 상황의 변화에 따른 군가의 보급 배경과 목적을 고찰하고, 군가의 노랫말을 분석하여 군가가 상상하고 노래하고자 한 실체적 대상이 무엇인지 규명하였다. 먼저, 군가와 군가 보급의 사회적 맥락을 파악한 결과, 한국전쟁기 군가의 창작과 보급은 전황에 따라 달라졌다. 전쟁 초기 군가는 일선 장병의 정신무장을 강화하고 승전의지를 고취하는 결전음악의 꽃이었다면, 1951년 7월 휴전회담이 시작되고 전쟁이 장기전에 돌입하면서 후방사회에서 군민동체(軍民同體)를 실현하는 주요 수단으로 기능하였다. 다음으로, 한국전쟁기에 발간된 군가집 3종 소재 군가 72곡의 노랫말을 분석하였다. 전시 군가의 창작과 보급은 정신무장 강화와 군민동체 구현을 위한 국가의 문화정치적 장치였다. 이러한 점에서 노랫말의 의미를 승전의지와 호국정신, 반공이데올로기 강화라는 단순한 프레임으로 이해할 수는 없다. 이 시기 군가는 한국전쟁이 자유와 정의, 평화를 수호하기 위한 성스러운 전쟁이라는 의미를 부여하여 전쟁의 정당성을 확보하고, 민족주의적 상징을 호출하거나 공산당과 중공군을 비민족으로 타자화함으로써 민족 내부의 결속력을 강화하였으며, 국토사랑과 국토회복 의지로서의 통일을 내세웠다. 국민과 국토가 국가의 인격적·공간적 실체라는 점에서 군가는 군민동체의 결집력을 기반으로 국민국가 만들기(Nation-State Building)를 실현한 효과적인 미디어였다. 여기에는 필연적으로 배타적 민족주의를 바탕으로 한 애국심이 작동했다. 전시라는 특수상황에서 상상된 국민국가는 추상적 신성을 지니며 무조건적인 충성과 희생을 요구하고 전시국민들의 삶을 규율했다. 이처럼 한국전쟁기 군가란 노래의 얼굴을 한 국가(國家)라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the creation and dissemination of military songs during the Korean War, how the purpose of their dissemination changed with the changing war situation, and to analyze the vocabulary and expression of military song lyrics to identify the entities that military songs were intended to imagine and sing. First, newspaper and magazine articles were examined to understand the social context of military songs and their dissemination. This revealed that military songs during the Korean War were an effective tool for structuring wartime emotions. In the early days of the War, military songs were used to strengthen the mental armor of the battlefield and to inspire a sense of determination. After mid-1951, as the ceasefire meeting began and negotiations entered into a protracted war that stretched far into the distance, military songs changed from the flower of battle music to the primary means of realizing Military-Private One Flesh in postwar society. Next, the lyrics of 72 military songs from three military song collections published between 1951 and 1953 were analyzed. The creation and dissemination of wartime military songs was a cultural and political device of the state with the aim of uniting front and rear societies, strengthening mental armament, and national reconstruction. In this regard, the meaning of the songs cannot be understood through a simple frame of nationalistic victory discourse, patriotic spirit, or anti-communist logic. Military songs during the Korean War period secured the war's legitimacy as a holy war to defend freedom, justice and peace; strengthened internal national cohesion by invoking nationalistic symbols or establishing the Communist Party and the Chinese Communist Army as non-nationals; and presented unity as love for the homeland and the will to restore it. Considering that the people and the homeland are the personal and spatial entities of a nation, respectively, Military Songs was a strategy to realize nation-state building based on the cohesion created between the military and civilians as if they were one. Patriotism based on exclusive nationalism was inevitably at work here. The nation-state created in wartime had an abstract sanctity and regulated life, demanding unconditional loyalty and sacrifice as a matter of course. Military Songs of the Korean War period can be characterized as a nation with a song face.
