마을교육공동체가 청소년의 학습과 성장에 주는 의미 분석

국문 초록

목적 본 연구는 교육혁신의 맥락에서 학교를 넘어 마을로 이어져 진행되고 있는 마을교육공동체의 활동이 청소년들의 학습 및 성장에 주는 영향과 의미가 무엇인지 탐색하여 제시하고, 이후 교육혁신의 방향에 시사점을 제공하고자 하였다. 방법 선행연구 검토를 통해 마을교육공동체가 교육혁신의 맥락에서 갖는 의미를 탐색하고, 사전연구를 통해 연구대상으로 경기도 의정부의 청소년자치배움터인 몽실학교가 연구목적에 부합된다고 판단하여 목적표집하였다. 2년여에 걸쳐 참여관찰, 문화기술지적 접근, 반구조화된 심층면접(청소년, 청년, 성인활동가 등 총 39명), 기초연구를 위한 설문조사를 진행하였고, 이렇게 수집한 자료를 연구대상과 관련된 각종 문서와 함께 분석하였다. 결과 첫째, 마을교육공동체는 방과 후의 시간에 청소년들에게 휴식과 돌봄이 이루어지는 정서적 공간이 되고 있었다. 둘째, 학교와는 다른 다양한 구성원들과 함께 활동하면서 주변세계와 관계 맺기가 이루어지고 있었고 이를 통해 자신이 살고 있는 세계와 지역사회에 대하여 새롭게 인식하며 마을에 대한 주인의식을 형성하고 있었다. 셋째, 마을교육공동체 속에서 다양한 도전과 실험 활동을 통해 ‘진짜 학습’을 경험하면서, 자신의 재능을 새롭게 발견하고 학습동기가 성장하고 있었다. 그리고 학교생활에도 긍정적인 전이가 이루어지고 있었다. 결론 청소년들은 마을교육공동체인 마을학교에서 주체적이고 도전적인 여러 경험을 하면서 자기 삶의 주체로 성장하고 있었다. 이는 ‘한 아이를 기르기 위해서는 온 마을이 필요하다’는 말처럼 학교교육과 함께 마을교육공동체가 청소년들의 온전한 성장을 위해 협력하고 지원해야 한다는 것을 의미한다. 학교 또한 공간재구조화를 통해 지역사회의 평생교육기관의 역할을 수행할 필요가 있다. 이러한 본 연구 결과가 교육혁신의 방향에 시사하는 바가 매우 크다.

영문 초록

Objectives This study is to present and explore the impact and meaning of the village education community's activities, which are being carried out beyond schools to villages in the context of educational innovation, on the learning and growth of adolescents, and then attempts to provide implications for the direction of educational innovation. Methods By reviewing preceding researches, this study explores the meaning of the village education community in the context of educational innovation and conducts purposive sampling on Mongsil School, which was judged to be suitable for the purpose of the study, the adolescent self-governing learning place located in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi-do through study in advance. For about 2 years, participatory observation, ethnographic approach, semi-structured depth interview(39 people including adolescents, young adults and adult activists etc.) and surveys for basic research were conducted simultaneously and the data collected thereby were analyzed with various documents related to the subject of study. Results First, the village education community has become an emotional space where adolescents can rest and be cared for after school. Second, adolescents have formed relationships with the world around them by working with various members other than the school, and through this, they were newly aware of the world and community in which they live, and formed a sense of ownership of the village. Third, the adolescents have been discovering their talents anew and their motivation for learning has been growing, experiencing ‘real learning’ through various challenges and experimental activities in the village education community. And a positive transfer has been taking place in their school life. Conclusions Adolescents have been growing up as subjects of their own lives by experiencing various independent and challenging experiences at the village school, a village education community. This means that the village education community should cooperate and support the whole development of adolescents along with school education, as the saying goes, ‘It takes a village to raise a child’. Schools also need to play the role of lifelong education institutions in the local community through spatial restructuring. The results of this study imply a lot to the direction of education innovation after.
