중학교의 기초학력 미달 비율에 영향을 미치는 학교 교육 활동 요인 분석

국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 중학생의 국어, 영어, 수학 교과의 기초학력 미달 비율에 영향을 미치는 학교 교육 활동 요인이 무엇인지를 분석하고, 학교 교육 활동 개선에 유의미한 시사점을 제안하였다. 방법 중학생의 국어, 영어, 수학 각 교과의 기초학력 미달 학생 비율에 영향을 미치는 학교 교육 활동 요인이 무엇인지 알아보기 위해 중다회귀분석(multiple regression analysis)을 활용하였다. 이에 교과별(국어, 영어, 수학) 기초학력 미달 비율을 종속변수로 설정하고, 학교 여건 및 특성 변인은 통제변수로 투입하였으며, 학교 교육 활동 변인을 독립변수로 설정하여 학교 교육 활동 요인이 중학생의 기초학력 미달 비율에 미치는 영향력을 분석하였다. 결과 중학생의 국어, 영어, 수학 교과의 기초학력 미달 비율에 공통적으로 유의미한 영향을 미치는 학교특성 및 여건 요인은 설립유형과 급식비 지원 학생 비율, 영어교육프로그램 실시 여부로, 학교 설립 유형이 사립에 비해 국공립인 경우, 급식비 지원 학생 비율이 높은 학교일수록 세 교과의 기초학력 미달 비율이 높게 나타났으며, 영어교육프로그램을 실시하는 학교가 이를 실시하지 않는 학교에 비해 세 교과(국어, 영어, 수학)의 기초학력 미달 비율이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 국어를 제외한 영어와 수학 교과의 학업성취도에 정적 영향을 미치는 변인으로 학생 1인당 대출자료 수와 수준별 이동수업 실시 여부를 확인할 수 있었다. 결론 중학생의 국어, 영어, 수학 교과 기초학력 미달 학생 비율을 감소시킬 수 있는 교육정책적 시사점으로 중학생의 독서활동 및 독서교육을 활성화하는 방안 마련, 학생 수준을 반영한 맞춤형 학교 교육 활동 운영, 방과후 학교 운영에 대한 점검이 필요하다는 점을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors of school education activities that affect the percentage of low performing students in middle schools and suggested significant implications for improving school education activities. Methods Multiple regression model was used to find out what school factors affect the proportion of middle school students who low performing in each subject of Korean, English, and mathematics. Accordingly, the ratio of low performing students in Korean, English, and mathematics subjects was used as a dependent variable. Factors related to school characteristics were included as control variables. An analysis was conducted by setting the variables of school education activities as independent variables. Results As a result of the study, the factors of school characteristics that have a significant effect on the ratio of low performing students in Korean, English, and math subjects were found to be the type of establishment, the ratio of students supporting lunch expenses, and the implementation of English education programs. In the case where the type of school establishment is national and public compared to private schools, the higher the proportion of students supporting meal expenses, the higher the ratio of low performing students. It was found that schools that implement English education programs had a lower rate of low performing studensts compared to schools that did not implement them. In addition, the variables ‘the number of books borrowed per student’ and ‘grouping by ability’ were found to reduce the rate of low performing students in English and math subjects. Conclusions The educational policy implications to reduce the the ratio of low performing students in middle school in Korean, English, and mathematics subjects are as follows: It is necessary to prepare measures to promote reading activities and reading education, operate personalized school education activities reflecting student ability, and monitoring of the operation of after-school programs.
