국문 초록

목적 본 연구에서는 대학 연구 공동체의 구조에 대한 이공계 학문후속세대의 인식을 탐색하고, 이들이 이러한 인식을 바탕으로 과학교육에 대해 어떠한 제언을 하였는지 분석하였다. 방법 이를 위하여 대학에서 연구를 수행하는 이공계 학문후속세대을 대상으로 반구조화된 인터뷰를 실시하고 이를 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구 참여자 모집은 눈덩이 표집 방법으로 이루어졌으며, 총 9명을 대상으로 인터뷰가 실시되었다. 인터뷰 내용을 녹음하여 전사하였고, 전사본을 주된 분석 자료로 하여 지속적 비교 분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 결과 분석 결과, 이공계 대학 연구 공동체의 구조에 대한 인식은 크게 사회적⋅재정적 구조로 구분되어 나타났다. 사회적 구조에 대한 인식은 연구실 내 학문후속세대를 중심으로 학생-학생, 학생-지도교수, 학생-다른 연구실의 학생들의 관계로 구분되어 도출되었다. 구체적으로, 학생들 간 관계에 있어서는 수평적이면서도 서로 도움을 주고받는 관계를 이상적인 것으로 인식하며, 지도교수와의 관계에 있어서는 자신이 주체적인 연구자로 자리할 수 있도록 지원받기를 기대하는 것으로 드러났다. 이밖에 다른 연구실의 연구자와는 연구에 필요한 자원을 주고받는 관계로 자리하는 것을 이상적으로 여기는 것으로 나타났다. 재정적 구조에 대한 인식은 연구 활동을 통한 생계유지 가능성에 대한 고민과 연구비 수주를 위한 활동에 대한 인식으로 도출되었다. 마지막으로, 이공계 대학 연구 공동체 구조의 두 측면에 대한 이공계 학문후속세대의 인식은 ‘과학자의 연구 과정을 접할 기회 제공’, ‘비판적 논의에 적극적으로 참여할 기회 제공’이라는 그들의 과학교육에 대한 제언으로 이어진 것으로 나타났다. 결론 본 연구 결과는 이공계 대학 연구 공동체의 사회적⋅재정적 구조가 어떻게 그들의 연구를 지원하거나 제약하는지 드러내는 데에 기여한다. 또한 대학 연구 공동체의 구조에 대한 그들의 인식이 어떻게 이공계 연구 인력 양성의 측면에서 과학교육에 대한 제언에 반영되는지 드러낸다. 이는 과학자들이 제시하는 과학교육에 대한 제언을 이해하고, 이들의 논의를 과학교육에 반영하기 위한 과정에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

Objectives The purpose of this study was to explore next-generation researchers’ perceptions of social and financial structure of college research communities and reflections of the perceptions on their suggestions on science education. Methods This study qualitatively analyzed semi-structured interviews with next-generation researchers who conduct research in colleges. Total 11 research participants were invited through snowball sampling. The interviews were recorded, and the recordings were transcribed. The transcripts were analyzed with the constant comparative method. Results The analysis results revealed next-generation researchers’ perceptions of social and financial structure of college research communities. Perceptions about social structure were delineated in categories of relationships between student-student, student-advisor, and student-other research labs’ members. Specifically, researchers expected equal and mutually beneficial relationship among students and expected their advisors to support them to become independent researchers. Regarding the relationship with other research labs’ members, researchers expected to form resource-sharing networks. Perceptions about financial structure was delineated in an aspect of personnel expenses and an aspect of activities for gathering research funds. The last part of the results is dedicated to discussing how scientists’ perceptions of the two aspects of structure were reflected in their suggestions for science education―proviidng opportunities to visit look into the scientific research and opportunities to engage in critical discussion. Conclusions The results of this study contribute to the discussion of structural affordances and constraints on next-generation researchers’ researches conducted in colleges. In addition, this study reveals how scientists’ perceptions of structures of their research communities are reflected in their suggestions for science education. This findings can contribute to understanding contexts in which next-generation researchers are situated and further discussion of how their suggestions can be reflected in science education.
