국문 초록

본 연구는 2015 개정 교육과정 통합과학과 통합사회 교과서에 제시된 과학기술관련 사회쟁점(SSI)을 비교분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 통합과학 교과서 5종과 통합사회 교과서 5종을 분석대상으로 하였으며, 교과서에 등장한 SSI 소재를 추출한 후 각 소재를 내용, 제시 관점, 교수학습방법의 세 차원에서 분석해보았다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 교과서에 제시된 SSI 소재는 내용차원에 따라 11가지 영역으로 범주화되었으며, 생명 다양성 보존, 환경오염, 에너지 등의 주제가 빈번하게 제시되 었다. 또한 통합과학과 통합사회 교과서 모두 SSI 소재를 제시함에 있어 개인적, 세계적 수준의 맥락보다는 사회적 맥락에 해당하는 내용을 주로 소개하고 있었다. 둘째, SSI 소재에 드러난 주요 제시관점을 분석한 결과, 통합과학은 환경적, 과학적 관 점을 주로 제시한 반면, 통합사회는 환경적, 사회적, 정책적 관점이 다수를 차지하였다. 셋째, SSI 소재와 관련된 교수학습방법을 분석한 결과, 통합과학과 통합사회 모두 토의토론, 발표, 글쓰기 등의 교실기반 활동이 주를 이루었으며, 학생들의 실천과 참여를 유도하는 교수학습활동은 다소 적은 것으로 드러났다. 본 연구의 결과는 교사들이 효과적인 SSI 수업을 계획하고 진행하는 데 시사점을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to analyze the socioscientific issues (SSI) presented in the 2015 revised integrated science and social studies textbooks, and to compare SSI in terms of contents, perspectives, and instructional activities. Five integrated science textbooks and five integrated social studies textbooks were examined, and SSI topics were extracted from the textbooks and categorized based on the criteria. The results were as follows. First, SSI topics were categorized into 11 content areas, and among them, biodiversity conservation, environmental pollution, and environment-friendly energy development were frequently presented in both science and social studies textbooks. Additionally, integrated science and social studies textbooks introduced SSI largely from societal contexts rather than individual and global contexts. Second, integrated science textbooks mostly emphasized environmental and scientific perspectives, whereas integrated social studies textbooks focused on environmental, social, and political perspectives. Third, both textbooks somewhat limited to provide classroom-based activities such as discussion, presentation, and writing; only few activities lead the students take responsible actions. This study will contribute to the effective use of SSI in classes.
