수학 학습에서 표상 번역 능력과 이해의 관계

국문 초록

수학 학습에서 표상과 표상 사이의 번역 능력은 수학 개념과 아이디어를 이해하기 위해 필수적이다. 표상 번역 능력에 관한 선행 연구는 대부분 여러 가지 표상 간 번역 능력과 수학적 개념 사이의 관계를 사후적으로 입증함으로써 수학적 개념 이해는곧 표상간 번역에 성공한 개수와 같다는 결과를 제시하였다. 본 연구는 이러한 선행 연구에서 한 발 더 나아가, 특정한 개념에 대한 표상들 사이의 번역 능력이 관련된 다른 개념을 이해하는데 미치는 영향을 탐구하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 3학년 학생 107명을 대상으로 곱셈 표상 번역 능력 검사를 실시하고, 이 결과를 토대로 상, 중, 하의 세 집단으로 범주화하였으며, 이어서 세 집단 간에 곱셈의 성질 이해에서 차이를 보이는지 분석하였다. 연구 결과 형식적인 수준의 곱셈의 성질 이해는 세집단 모두에서 차이를 보였으나, 직관적인 수준의 곱셈의 성질 이해는 상・중, 상・ 하 집단 간에만 차이를 보였다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 수학 학습에서 이해와 그것의 교수・학습에 관한 시사점을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

In mathematics learning, the ability to translate between representations is essential to understand mathematical concepts and ideas. Previous studies on representation translation ability have proved the relationship between various representation translation ability and mathematical concept reversely, suggesting that the understanding of mathematical concept is the same as the number of successful translations between representations. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of inter-representational translation ability on understanding other concepts related to specific concepts. For this purpose, 107 third grade students were categorized into three groups based on the multiplication representation translation ability test, and analyzed whether there was a difference in the understanding of property of multiplication between the groups. As a result of the study, the understanding of the property of the multiplication at the formal level was different in all three groups, and at the intuitive level was different only between the upper, middle, and lower groups. Through these results, the implications of understanding and its teaching and learning in mathematics learning were derived.
