자율전공학과 현황분석과 운영방안 연구

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 국내 대학의 자율전공학과 현황을 고찰해 보고 자율전공학과를 운영해 온 국내대학의 2개 대학의 운영사례를 비교하여 학과의 운영 실태를 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 본 연구에는 문헌분석과 사례분석이 실시되었으며, 문헌분석은 대학알리미 사이트의 자료와 교육과학기술부에서 제공하는 학과정보 자료를 분석하였다. 알리미 사이트에서 우리나라 대학 중 자율전공학과 혹은 자유전공학과의 개설 현황과 폐과 현황을 조사하였고 교육과학기술부에서 제공하는 커리어넷 학과정보 사이트에서는 자율전공학과에 대한 일반적인 내용을 분석하였다. 사례분석은 자유전공학부를 10년 이상 운영해 온 대학 중 서울에 위치한 A대학과 지방에 B대학의 학과 운영 사례를 분석하였다. 분석결과 A대학의 경우 자유전공학부에 입학한 학생들은 4년 동안 같은 학부에 소속되어 있으면서 다양한 전공영역을 탐색하여 자신의 전공교육과정을 설계하여 수강하도록 되어있었다. B대학의 경우 자율전공학부를 학부제와 유사한 형태로 운영하고 있었고, 자율전공학부에 입학한 학생들은 1년 동안 학부에 소속되어 있다가 1학년 2학기에 전공을 결정하고 2학년부터 자신이 원하는 전공학과로 배정되었다. 학생들이 선호하는 전공 신청학과는 몇 개의 특정 학과에 편중되어 있었다. 자율전공학부의 설립 취지는 전공영역에 대한 학생들의 자유로운 탐구와 고민을 통한 자신의 의사표현의 실현이다. 두 개 대학의 경우를 비교해 보면 그 목적과 운영방법이 다르게 나타났다.

영문 초록

In this study, current situations of the Liberal Arts Department were investigate and the cases of two universities that have operated the Liberal Arts Major were analyzed. Literature analysis and cases studies were used. For the Literature, the papers and the information in the career net and Alimi were analyzed an cases of the two universities that haver operated the major for about 10 years were analyzed. According to th study results, the students stayed in the Liberal Arts Department for the entire school years in the case of A university. They had to take the required classes in order to have ideas and knowledge about diverse study areas before they choose their owen study areas for 2 semesters. After taking classes some classes, they can design their own majors or choose one of the majors in the university curriculum. However, the students in the Liberal Arts Department while taking classes in the other departments. In the case of B University, there is not required classes in the first year. The students could freely explore other study areas on their own for one year and move to the major department in the second year. In this study, it was found that the main purpose of the Liberal Art Department was to give students with enough time to choose their major study areas, but it was different in the ways of managing the departments and the curriculum. Based on the study results, the effective ways of managing the department was suggested.
