국문 초록

대학 글쓰기 교육에서 수준별 교육을 실현하기 위해서는 신입생의 글쓰기 능력 진단이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 서울대학교 학부 신입생들의 글쓰기 능력 평가 도구를 개발하기 위해 국내외 사례들을 살펴보고 관련 문헌 고찰을 바탕으로 평가 도구 설계 안을 구축하였다. 설계 단계에서는 평가의 목적과 대상, 과제와 구인, 평가 환경을 기술하였다. 또한 설계 안을 따라 개발된 평가 도구의 실제와 그 시행 과정을 살펴보고 평가 결과의 분석과 해석을 위한 방법과 도구들을 소개하였다. 특히 평가 결과의 해석은 평가 이해 관계자들이 활용할 수 있는 유용한 정보를 제공하기 위해 기준 설정을 수행하고, 연도별 신입생의 글쓰기 능력 추이를 확인하기 위해 동등화 연구를 수행하였다. 마지막으로 평가 도구의 설계와 시행, 활용 측면 각각에서 드러난 연구 쟁점들과 관련 시사점을 논의하였다. 이 연구는 대학 글쓰기 교육 영역에서 상대적으로 연구가 이루어지지 않은 글쓰기 평가 중에서도 신입생을 대상으로 하는 진단 평가 도구 개발을 목적으로 하였으며, 평가 도구 개발의 설계부터 결과 활용에 이르는 과정을 하나의 체계로서 개발하였다는 점에서 향후 서울대학교 신입생을 위한 글쓰기 평가의 지속적 시행과 안정화 뿐만 아니라 대학 신입생을 위한 대규모 글쓰기 평가 도구 개발 연구에 시사하는 바가 크다고 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Assessing the writing ability of first-year students is essential for providing writing education to students having various levels of writing ability in college. This study examined various cases in Korea and abroad to develop a writing test for freshmen at Seoul National University (SNU) and then, devised a test design plan based on a literature review. In the design stage, the purpose and object of the test, tasks and recruitment process, and test environment were described. The actual test developed according to the design plan and its implementation process were investigated and methods and tools for analyzing and interpreting the test results were introduced. In the interpretation stage, a standard was set to provide helpful information for test stakeholders. Moreover, equating methods were used to identify the trends of freshmen’s writing ability annually. Finally, this study discussed research issues and implications arising in the design, implementation, and use of the test. Among the writing tests that have not been studied in the field of college writing education, this study aimed to develop a diagnostic test for first-year students. As the test was developed as a single system and in a unified process, this study has significant implications not only for continuously implementing and stabilizing the essay examination for SNU first-year students, but for further research on the development of large-scale writing tests for university entrants.
