Research Trends and Issues of Home Economics Based STEAM Education in Korea: A Systematic Literature Review

국문 초록

창의적인 사고력과 서로 다른 지식을 융합할 수 있는 능력은 미래 사회가 요구하는핵심적인 역량이며, 2015 개정 교육과정은 창의융합형 인재에 대한 국가와 사회의 요구를 반영하여, 교과 간 또는 교과 내 융합·연계 교육과정과 수업을 운영할 것을 장려하고 있다. 가정과 교육 또한 미래사회에 필요한 실천적 추론 역량 함양을 추구하고 있으며, 개인과 가족이 전 생애에서 직면하게 될 다양한 생활의 경험과 문제에 대한 실천적 문제 해결을 위해서는 여러 교과와의 통합 및 융합 교육이 긴요하다. 한국에서는 2010년 이후 여러 분야에서 융합교육에 대한 연구가 활발하게 이루어졌으나, 가정교과분야에서 융합교육에 대한 연구는 매우 부족한 실정이다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 2010년부터 2019년까지 가정교과에서의 융합교육 관련 연구 동향을 분석하고 향후 가정교과 융합교육 연구를 위한 시사점을 제언하고자 한다. 이를 위해 2019년 2월 27일까지 실과, 가정, 가정교육, 융합, STEAM을 키워드로 하여 RISS, DBpia에서 논문을 검색한 가정교과 융합교육 논문 21편을 분석하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 2010년부터 매년 한두 편씩 가정교과 융합교육 관련 논문은 발표되었으며, 2015년과 2016년 에는 2015 개정 교육과정의 창의융합형 인재 양성 목표에 맞추어 관련 연구가 연 4-5편으로 증가하였다. 그러나 2017년과 2018년에는 각 1편으로 다시 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 둘째, 대부분의 연구는 초등학생과 중학생을 대상으로 융합교육 교수-학습 과정안과 융합교육 프로그램을 개발하고, 사전-사후 검사와 사후 설문 조사를 통해 프로그램의 효과를 검증하는 것이었다. 그 결과 창의성, 탐구력이나 융합적 사고력 등의 인지적 영역, 교과에 대한 태도, 관심, 학습몰입 등의 정서적 영역에서의 능력 향상에 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 의생활과 식생활을 주제로 주제중심 통합적 접근을 시도한 연구가 가장 많았으며, 그 외 가족, 소비자, 주생활에서는 교과간 통합을 시도하였으나 관련 연구는 3편에 불과하였다. 주제 중심 융합교육에는 실과 또는 가정교과를 중심교과로 하고 국어, 영어, 사회, 도덕, 한문, 수학, 과학, 기술, 음악, 미술, 체육 등 모든 교과를 융합한 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

As a preliminary step towards encouraging the home economics educators to implement STEAM education in the field, this study reviewed literature on integrative approach taken in the home economics education in Korea, thereby attempting to better understand research trends and issues related to home economics based STEAM education. Research papers from data sources including RISS and DBpia were searched as of 27 February 2019 using key words of practical arts, technology and home economics education, convergence, integration, STEM, and STEAM, and also mixes of these key words. A total of 21 research papers that covered integrative approach in home economics education were reviewed to release following results. First, there has been a yearly publication of a couple of articles since 2010, but the number increased to four or five studies in 2015 and 2016 each, then fell to one a year in 2017 and 2018. Second, development of integrative education program or instructional plan was the main contents of research on STEAM education, while verifying their effectiveness followed. Third, most of the home economics based STEAM education programs were targeted towards students in elementary of middle schools. Forth, the most commonly covered theme in integrative education in home economics were ‘clothing & textile’ and ‘food, nutrition & dietary’. Fifth, STEAM education in home economics contributed to the enhancement of core competency that is required in the future, including creative thinking and creative problem solving ability.
