‘World-class’ 연구소가 세계적인 성과를 내는데 작용하는 결정적인 요인에 관한 연구: 노벨과학상 수상자를 배출한 주요 연구소를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 노벨과학상 수상자를 배출한 주요 연구소를 중심으로 ‘World-class’ 연구소가 세계적인 성과를 내는데 작용하는 결정적인 요인을 탐색하는데 그 목적이 있다. 이 연구소들은 연구에 대한 투자 및 지원, 평가, 인재 선발, 운영 방식 등에서 공통점 및 차이점을 보이고 있고 이는 노벨상을 비롯한 세계적인 성과를 낳도록 이끌었 다. 이러한 점에서 연구소 관계자들이 제시하는 결정적인 요인들을 수렴한다면 의미 있고 유용한 메시지를 얻을 수 있을 것이다. 연구와 관련된 선행연구를 탐색하였고 직접적인 자료 수집의 어려움을 고려하여 국내에 소개된 바 있는 확인된 이차적인 자료를 수집하였다. 이를 위해 ‘노벨상 연구소’라는 키워드로 검색하여 2018년 2월 24일에 국내 대표 검색 사이트인 NOOOO에서 12,291건을, 2018년 4월 22일에 국제적인 대표 검색 사이트인 GOOOOO에서 185건을 도출하여 총 12,476여건을 여러 날에 걸쳐 모두 확인하였다. 이와 함께, 본 연구의 주제와 관련되는 도서 1권을 추가, 반영하 였다. 자료 검토 과정에서 연구의 주제에 부합하는 내용들을 정리하였고 연구의 주제와 관련된 내용을 언급한 4개의 연구소 관계자 총 21인을 선정하였다. 내용 분석 과정에서 1～3차에 걸친 코딩 작업을 통해 개념, 범주, 주제를 도출하였고 반복적인 수정, 보완을 통해 타당도를 제고하였다. 연구의 결과는 크게 세 가지로서, 첫째, 선도적인 연구의 발굴과 평가, 둘째, 최고의 인재 선발 및 혁신의 추구, 셋째, 안정적인 연구 지원과 결과 사업화이다. 연구의 결과를 토대로 결론 및 제언을 제시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 개인 및 조직의 역량을 최대화하고 최고의 성과를 도출하는 데 대한 시사점을 구체적으로 확인할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to explore the crucial factors that contribute to the global achievements of ‘World-class’ research institutes that have won the Nobel Prize in Science. These institutes have shown commonalities and differences in research investment, support, evaluation, talent selection, and operation, which led to worldwide achievements including the Nobel Prize. In this regard, it is possible to obtain meaningful and useful messages by converging the decisive factors suggested by the institute staff. I reviewed previous studies related to the research. And I collected the confirmed secondary data introduced in Korea considering the difficulties of direct data collection. To do this, I searched for the keyword ‘Nobel Prize Institute’, and on February 24, 2018, 12,291 cases were retrieved from NOOOO, the nation’s leading search site, and 185 cases were retrieved from GOOOOO, an international representative search site on April 22, 2018. All cases were confirmed over several days. In addition, one book related to the subject of this study was added and reflected. In the course of reviewing the data, I gathered the contents that corresponded to the topic of the research and selected 21 persons from the four research institutes. In the course of content analysis, concepts, categories, and topics were derived through the first to third coding tasks, and the validity was improved through repetitive correction and supplementation. The results of this study are as follows: First, identifying and evaluating leading research. Second, selection of the best talent and the pursuit of innovation. Third, stable research support and commercialization of results. Based on the results of the study, conclusions, and suggestions were presented. Through this study, we can concretely identify implications of maximizing individual and organizational capabilities and deriving the best performance.
