Tourism Development Models and the Creative Turn of Intangible Cultural

Intangible cultural heritage is one of people's focuses in recent years in China. While the protection of intangible cultural heritage is emphasized, its tourism exploitation becomes a notable phenomenon. Different types of intangible cultural heritages are developed into different types of tourism products including museums and eco-museums, live performances, art workshops, theme parks and souvenirs. Thus a series of tourism development models of intangible cultural heritage come into being. Suzhou, a traditional scenic tourist city of eastern China, is very rich in intangible cultural heritage resources. This paper takes Suzhou as a case to discuss the tourism development models of intangible cultural heritages. After evaluating the tourism values of all kinds of intangible cultural resources and analyzing the tourist demand of Suzhou, some creative strategies to improve tourists‘ experience to intangible cultural heritage are given. It is indicated that a creative turn is essential to both the protection of intangible cultural heritage resources and the tourism development.
