국문 초록

본 연구는 90년대 한국 추리소설을 추리소설이라는 장르적 특성을 기반으로 분석하여 그 성과와 한계를 확인하는 데에 목적을 두고 있다. 90년대 추리소설은 고전추리라는 추리소설의 세부 장르적 지향점을 가지고 출발하여이성적 주체를 통한 이상의 실현이라는 성과를 내며 황금기를 맞았다. 한국 추리소설에서는 잘 등장하지 않는 이성적 주체로서의 탐정을 등장시키며 고전추리소설이 꿈꾸는 이상적인 질서의 회복을 보여주고 있는 것이다. 하지만고전추리 장르가 제시하는 이상이란 비현실적인 것이며 문학의 감정적인 요소를 배제한 것이라는 한계를 가지고있기에, 추리소설은 점차 고전추리의 한계에서 벗어나 저마다의 사회적 현실을 반영하는 형태로 진화하며 살아남아왔다. 90년대 추리소설 역시 이러한 진화와 정체성의 확립이라는 기로에 놓인 상태였으나, 결국 현실에 따라 진화하는 방식으로 살아남지 못하게 된다. 현실과 환상의 경계에서 현실이 아닌 환상을 선택하게 되며 90년대 추리소설은 점차 추리소설로서의 정체성을 상실하게 되었다는 한계를 보이게 된다. 이러한 90년대 추리소설의 성과와 한계는 추리소설이라는 장르와 현실의 관계를 밝힘으로써 문학으로서 추리소설이 갖는 사회적 역할을 확인하게 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to identify the achievements and limitations of Korean mystery novels in the 1990s by analyzing them based on the genre characteristics of mystery novels. Mystery novels in the 1990s started with a direction of ‘the classic mystery novel’, and reached a golden age with the achievement of realization of the ideal by rational subject. It shows the recovery of the ideal order dreamed of by classical mystery novels by introducing a detective as a rational subject that does not appear in Korean mystery novels often. However, since the ideal suggested by the classical mystery genre is unrealistic and has limitations in that it excludes the emotional elements of literature, mystery novels have evolved and survived in a form that reflects their real life of each society, breaking away from the limits of classical reasoning. Mystery novels in the 1990s were also at the crossroads of this evolution and establishment of identity, but in the end they do not survive in a way that evolves according to reality. At the boundary between reality and fantasy, they choose fantasy rather than reality, and the mystery novels of the 90s gradually lose their identity as ‘Mystery novel’. These achievements and limitations of the detective novels in the 1990s reveal the relationship between the genre and reality of the detective novel, thereby confirming the social role of the mystery novel as literature.
