영화 <반도>에 나타난 좀비 세계관 확장에 대하여

국문 초록

한국 좀비물은 차별과 계급주의 현실을 강력하게 반영하는 방향으로 서사를 구축해왔다. ‘K좀비의 선구자’로 평가받는 연상호 감독은 영화 <부산행>(2016)을 시작으로 좀비를 통해 한국 사회의 부조리를 폭로했다. 연상호 감독의 독특한 지점은 서사에서 좀비 아포칼립스는 한국 사회의 문제와 인간을 이야기하기위한 시작에 불과하다. 그는 좀비를 이야기하되 아포칼립스는 서막에 불과하고 진짜 근원적 문제가 그 바닥에 깊이 깔려 있는 인간의 추악함을 폭로한다. 영화 <반도>(2020)는 타국에 사는 ‘반도’ 출신 이방인들이 ‘좀비보다 더 지긋지긋한 인간들의 차별과 혐오’를겪으며 자청하여 반도로 오는 모습을 담는다. 여기서 강조되는 것은 ‘반도’ 사람들이 ‘타자’라는 것이다. <반도>는 타자로 살아온 이들이 자신들을 소외시킨 또 다른 타자들을 용서하고 연대한다는 세계관을 담아낸다는 점에서 주목된다. “우리 가족이 같이 있었는데 왜 지옥이에요?”, “제가 있던 세상도 나쁘지 않았어요.”라는 준의 말을 통해 좀비의 난립을 혼돈과 부정적으로 그려낸 기존의 좀비 콘텐츠들과 차별을 이룬다. 이는 좀비와 인간의 공존도 대립도 아닌, 어떤 소외와 폭력도 주인공들을 방해할 수 없으며, 이들은 존재 자체로 어디서든 행복할거라는 주체성을 강력히 드러낸다. 또한 용서와 연대는 ‘신파’를 넘어서 복수의 의무에서 벗어난 주인공들의 선택의폭을 확장하며 다양한 이야기가 형성됨으로써 콘텐츠의 확장을 꾀한다. 본고는 영화 <반도>에 나타나는 한나 아렌트의 인간의 조건 의 요소를 분석함으로써 이 작품이 기존의 좀비물과는 다른, 창조적인 좀비 세계관을 보여주고 있음을 밝히고자 한다. 인간 생명과 주체성에 높은 가치를 두는아렌트의 시각이 영화 <반도>안에서 심도 있게 나타남을 드러냄으로써 이 작품이 기존의 좀비물과는 차별을 이루며 보다 깊이 있고 내밀한 타자성과 이를 극복하는 방안을 제시하고 있음을 나타낼 수 있다. 좀비물을 통해 보다본질적이고 깊은 시대의 어둠을 드러내고, 나아가 인간 주체성의 긍정을 담는 <반도>에서의 확장된 좀비 세계관은오늘날 혐오의 시대에 그 의미가 크다.

영문 초록

Korean zombies have built narratives in a way that strongly reflects the reality of discrimination and classism. Director Yeon Sang-ho, who is considered a “pioneer of K zombies,” revealed the absurdities of Korean society through zombies, starting with the movie “Train to Busan”(2016). Director Yeon Sang-ho’s unique point in the narrative is that zombie Apocalypse is only the beginning of talking about problems in Korean society and humans. He talks about zombies, but Apocalypse is only the prelude and exposes the ugliness of humans whose real fundamental problems are deeply embedded on the floor. The movie “Peninsula”(2020) shows strangers from “Peninsula” living in other countries voluntarily coming to the peninsula through “discrimination and hatred of humans who are more bored than zombies.” What is emphasized here is that the “Peninsula” people are “others.” “Peninsula” is noteworthy in that it captures the worldview that those who have lived as batters forgive and solidarity with other batters who have alienated them. Through Jun’s words, “Why is it hell when my family was together?” and “The world where I was wasn’t bad,” it is differentiated from existing zombie contents that portrayed zombies’ turmoil and negatively. This strongly reveals the subjectivity that no alienation and violence, not coexistence or confrontation between zombies and humans, can interfere with the protagonists, and that their existence itself will be happy anywhere. In addition, forgiveness and solidarity go beyond “Shinpa” to expand the range of choices of the main characters who have escaped from their obligations of revenge, and to expand the content by forming various stories. This paper aims to reveal that this work shows a creative zombie worldview different from existing zombies by analyzing the elements of Hannah Arendt’s “Human Conditions” in the movie “Peninsula”. Arendt’s view, which places high value on human life and subjectivity, appears in depth in the movie “The Peninsula,” indicating that the work is differentiated from existing zombies and suggests deeper and more intimate otherness and ways to overcome them. The expanded zombie worldview in , which reveals the darkness of a more essential and deep era through zombies and further contains the affirmation of human subjectivity, is significant in today’s era of hatred.
