공격성 구성개념 탐색을 위한 질적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 공격성의 구성개념 탐색을 목적으로 하고 있다. 공격성에 관한 경험적 연구에서는 공격성을 나쁘고 해가 되는 것으로 인식하며, 공격성의 부정적인 결과에 초점을 두고 있는 경우가 대부분이다. 그러나 이론적 및 임상적 측면에서는 공격성을 중립적인 시각에서 바라보면서, 역기능적이고 파괴적인 측면뿐 아니라 기능적이고 건설적인 측면에 대해서도 함께 고찰해왔다. 이에 본 연구에서는 그동안 경험적 연구에서 주목받지 못했던 공격성의 긍정적이고 적응적인 측면에 대해 살펴보고자 하였고, 이를 위해 먼저 일반인들의 공격성에 대한 인식을 탐색적으로 살펴볼 필요가 있다고 보았다. 이에 대학(원)생 173명을 대상으로 공격성의 구성개념과 공격성의 필요성에 관한 설문조사를 실시하였고, 이를 CQR-M(Consensual Qualitative Research-Modified: 수정된 합의적 질적 연구) 방법을 통해 분석하였다. 분석결과 공격성의 구성개념에 대해 공격성의 ‘본질’, ‘기능’, ‘표현’, ‘관련된 심리적 특성’의 4개 영역, 11개 범주가 나타났고, 공격성의 필요성에 대해서는 ‘개인적 차원’, ‘관계적 차원’, ‘사회적 차원’의 3개 영역, 9개 범주가 나타났다. 대학(원)생들은 공격성의 부정적인 측면뿐 아니라 긍정적이고 적응에 기여하는 측면에 대해서도 인식하고 있었으며, 이론가들이 제안한 공격성의 적응성에 대해 일반 대학생들도 인식하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 향후 연구에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore the construct of aggression. Aggression is often perceived as bad and harmful, and empirical studies are also universally focused on negative consequences of aggression. However, in theoretical and clinical aspects, aggression has been viewed from a neutral perspective, and not only dysfunctional and destructive aspects but also functional and constructive aspects have been considered. Therefore, this study wanted to look at the positive and adaptive aspects of aggression that have not been noticed in empirical studies, and to do so, it was necessary to first explore the public’s perception of aggression. For this purpose, a survey was conducted on 173 university students on the constructive concept and the necessity of aggression, and the survey was analyzed through CQR-M(Consensual Qualitative Research-Modified) method. As a result of the analysis, there were 4 domains and 11 categories of aggression’s constructive concepts: ‘essence’, ‘function’, ‘expression’, and ‘related psychological characteristics’. As for the necessity of aggression, 3 categories of ‘personal dimension’, ‘relational dimension’, and ‘social dimension’ were found. The university students recognized not only the negative aspects of aggression but also the positive and contributing aspects to adaptation, and the students also recognized the adaptability of aggression proposed by theorists. Based on these results, implications for future research were discussed.
