사회과 수업에서 스마트 기기를 활용한 지식의 구성 과정 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회과 수업에 디지털 기기가 활용되었을 때 학생들의 사회과 지식 구성 과정은 어떻게 나타나는지 그리고 그 과정에서 스마트 기기는 어떠한 역할을 수행하는지 탐색하였다. 이를 위해 서울시 소재의 초등학교 6학년 1개 학급 21명을 대상으로 3주 동안 수업에 스마트 기기를 도입하여 개발과 보존에 대한 논쟁 문제 수업을 실시한 후 이 과정에서 스마트 기기의 역할 및 학생들의 지식 구성 과정을 관찰하였다. 연구 결과 학생들은 수업의 전반에서 스마트 기기의 다양한 기능을 통해 사회과 지식을 구성하고 시각화함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이러한 기능의 활용을 위해 상호 협력하는 모습을 관찰할 수 있었다. 그리고 학생들은 스마트 기기를 활용하여 그들의 요구에 맞는 설명력이 높고 권위 있는 정보를 수집하고 이를 토론에 활용하였다. 이 과정에서 학생들은 기존 교실수업의 선형적 지식 구성 과정과 상반되는 비선형적 지식 구성 과정을 보이기도 하였다. 학생들은 스마트 기기를 활용하여 자신이 표현하고자 하는 주장이나 토론의 결과를 보다 수월하게 시각화하고 공유하였다. 이와 같은 스마트 기기의 사회과 교육 적용이 보다 효과적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 교실 환경 개선이 선결되어야 하며, 학생 및 교사의 디지털 리터러시 향상이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Smart devices, which are spreading in recent years due to the continuous development of the digital convergence environment, can have various effects on students’ knowledge composition. As an alternative to compensate for these problems, I introduced smart devices in the construction of knowledge process and examined its roles. 21 students from 1 class in the 6th grade of an elementary school in Seoul had class make up the controversial issue instruction about development and conservation in a small group using the smart devices and I examined the roles of smart devices in their classes. The result is as follows ; First, students were able to generate and visualize their social studies knowledge through various functions and application of smart devices throughout classes. And students show cooperative action during classes for the using various function. Second, students using smart devices to collect highly descriptive and authoritative information that they using in discussion. In the process of classes, students construct knowledge not linear process but non-linear process. Third, they using smart devices not only express their argument or conclusion, but also receive and share feedbacks. In order for these smart devices to function properly in the social studies instructions, it is necessary to improve the related environment as well as students’ and teachers’ digital literacy.
