우리나라 초중고 학교급별 뉴스 리터러시 수준은 어떠한가?

국문 초록

다양한 매체의 발달로 인해 많은 뉴스 정보를 손쉽게 접할 수 있게 됨에 따라 자신에게 유용한 뉴스 정보를 선별하여 수용하고 심층적으로 활용하는 능력인 뉴스 리터러시는 현대사회에서 필수적인 역량이 되었다. 따라서 이러한 시점에서 뉴스 리터러시를 진단하고 뉴스 리터러시에 영향을 미치는 요인을 파악하여 교육적 시사점을 마련할 필요성이 제기된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 한국언론진흥재단에서 제공하는 ‘2016 10대 청소년 미디어 이용조사’ 자료를 활용하여 2019년 7월~9월동안 연구를 진행하였다. 선행연구를 토대로 뉴스 리터러시를 다국면 요인(선별적 추구, 이해 추구, 다양성 추구)으로 정의 내려 뉴스 리터러시 하위 요인의 수준을 학교급별로 비교하고자 하였다. 또한 다집단 구조방정식을 활용하여 NIE 경험과 뉴스 리터러시와의 관계에서 뉴스 매체 경험의 매개효과를 탐색하고, 구조모형의 경로계수를 학교급별로 비교하였다. 본 연구의 결과 첫째, 우리나라 학생들의 뉴스 리터러시 수준은 고, 중, 초 순으로 높게 나타났으며 학교급내 비교에서는 초, 중, 고 모두 선별적 추구, 이해 추구, 다양성 추구 순으로 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 초, 중, 고 학교급 모두 NIE 경험이 뉴스 매체 경험을 매개하여 뉴스 리터러시에 미치는 직, 간접적인 긍정적 효과를 확인하였다. 셋째, NIE 경험, 뉴스 매체 경험, 뉴스 리터러시 간 관계에서 경로계수를 초, 중, 고 학교급별로 비교한 결과, NIE 경험의 효과는 초등학교급에서 가장 크게 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구의 의의와 교육적 시사점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

With the development of various media, news literacy, which is the ability to select, accept and use news information, is an essential capability in modern society. At this point, it is necessary to diagnose news literacy, identify factors influencing news literacy to provide educational implications. So, we used the ‘2016 Teen Youth Media Use Survey’ data provided by the Korea Press Foundation. This study defined news literacy as multi-faceted factors(selective pursuit, understanding pursuit, diversity pursuit) based on previous studies. This study also explored the mediating effects of news media experiences in the relationship between NIE experience and news literacy using multi-group structural equation modeling and compared the path coefficients of structural models by school grades. The results of this study were as follows. First, the level of news literacy was higher in the order of high school, middle school and elementary school. Also, all students showed high priority in the order of selective pursuit, understanding pursuit, and diversity pursuit. Second, all school grades showed that the news media experience had a complete mediating effect on the relationship NIE experiences and news literacy. Also, positive direct and indirect mediating effects of the news media experience on NIE experience and news literacy were identified. Finally, the path coefficients in the relationship between NIE experience, news media experience, and news literacy were compared by school grades. As a result, the effect of the NIE experience was the greatest at the elementary school. Finally, the educational implications of this study were suggested.
