국문 초록

언어차용에 대한 언어학계의 관심과 체계적인 접근은 50년대 이래로 활발히 연 구되어 왔다. 그러나 그 연구의 중심은 어휘의 차용에 제한되어 왔고, 연구의 방법론 역시 어휘 층위에 집중된 양상을 보여 왔다. 따라서 차용현상과 외래요소에 대한 전반적인 논의나 연구는 상대적으로 빈약한 상태로 지속되어 온 것이 현실이다. 또한 언어차용에 관련된 전문용어들도 개별 층위별로 체계적이고 종합적인 명명을 확보하지 못한 채 연구자의 주관적 개별성에 따라 사용되어 왔거나, 때론 어휘 층위에 한정되어 명명되어 왔다. 특히 ‘차용어’와 ‘외래어’ 용어의 문제는 애매성과 모호성, 상위개념과 하위개념, 영어 표기의 ‘borrowed word’와 ‘loanword’의 불분명한 사용과 구분이 무엇보다 먼저 해결되어야 할 과제다. 이에 대해 선행연구들의 논의 속에서 차용어와 외래어의 용어 문제에 따른 개념과 분류 유형의 구심점을 찾아가는 것이 바로 본 연구의 핵심이다. 이러한 점은 통시적 방법론을 기본으로 공시적인 방법으로 기술되어야 함을 전 제하고 있다. 또한 외래 언어의 연구가 단순히 ‘차용어’, ‘외래어’라는 용어만으로 어휘 차원의 면모에만 치중되어 차용현상에 대한 외래요소들에 대한 관심도 간과해서는 안 될 것이다. 이런 점에서 종래의 ‘차용어’와 ‘외래어’의 개념을 구분하여 어휘 영역에만 머물지 않고 외래 언어의 음운, 어휘, 통사 차원까지 망라하여 보다 총체적 개념으로 접근하는 시각이 필요하다.

영문 초록

An interest in and a systematic approach to linguistic borrowing in the linguistics field have been actively inquired since the 1950s. However, the center of the research has been restricted to lexical borrowing. The research methodology has also shown the aspect of being concentrated to lexical layer. Accordingly, it is the reality that a general discussion or a research of the borrowing phenomenon and foreign element has been continued in the relatively poor condition. Also, even the technical terms related to linguistic borrowing have been used according to a researcher’s subjective individuality with failing to secure systematic and general naming(命名) based on individual layer, or have been designated sometimes with being limited to lexical layer. Especially, the description of terms in ‘loan word’ and ‘borrowed word’ has a task that will need to be solved, first of all, the vagueness & ambiguity, the upper concept & lower concept, and the equivocal use & classification of ‘loanword’ and ‘borrowed word’ in English writing. In terms of this, the key of this study is just what proceeds with seeking the pivot of a concept and classification according to the description of terms in ‘loanword’ and ‘borrowed word’ amidst a discussion in previous researches. This matter is being premised to be necessarily described with a synchronic method based on diachronic methodology. In addition, a research of foreign word will not need to be overlooked an interest in foreign elements on borrowing owing to being biased only to the aspect of lexical dimension merely with the terms dubbed ‘loanword’ and ‘borrowed word.’ In this regard, a viewpoint is needed that approaches with a more overall concept through covering up the phonological, lexical and syntactic dimension in foreign word without remaining only in a vocabulary section, through dividing a concept of the conventional ‘loanword’ and ‘borrowed word.’
