국문 초록

『아라비안나이트』(천일야화)는 밤을 배경으로 1001일간 이어간 이야기이다. 『아라비안나이트』는 다양한 계층의 인물들이 등장하여 시간과 공간, 삶과 죽음, 현실과 비현실을 넘나드는 판타지를 펼치며 인류 최고의 문학으로서의 가치를 보여준다. 『아라비안나이트』는 꼬리에 꼬리를 무는 독특한 이야기 구성으로 반복과 변형을 통해 큰 작품 속에 수많은 작품들을 담아내는 구조를 하고 있다. 이러한 구성은 작품 전체에서 대비와 조화, 다양성에 있어서의 통일성과 같은 고전적 구성원리를 기반으로 한다. 대립의 형식은 이야기의 정신이며 이는 전체 구도의 조화와 통일성을 지향하고, 형식과 내용이 일치하는 고전 미학과 전통적 서사구조의 원리를 나타낸다. 곳곳에 산재한 운문은 이야기의 완급을 조절하고 주제를 강조하며 산문으로 전달할 수 없는 미적 견고성과 가치를 전달한다. 이야기는 청각기관에 직접 호소하는 것으로 존재의 가장 깊숙한 곳까지 침투하여 존재를 의미화 한다. 불확실성 속에서 목숨을 담보로 1001일간 이어나간 이야기는 인간의 실존을 상징하는 철학적 의미를 띠며 샤라자드를 생산자이자 창조자로 거듭나게 하였다.

영문 초록

Arabian Nights(The Thousand and One Nights) tells stories that will last for 1,001 days at night. Presenting characters from various classes, it develops fantasy between time and space, life and death, and reality and non-reality and exhibits its value as one of mankind s greatest literature. In a unique back-to-back structure, it contains many stories within a work via repetition and alteration. This composition is based on the classical principle of contrast and harmony and unity in diversity throughout the work. The contrast format reflects the spirit of the stories and demonstrates the principle of classical aesthetics and traditional narrative structure to be oriented toward the unity and harmony of the entire composition and promote an agreement between form and content. Scattered around the stories, the verse regulates the rate of stories, emphasizes themes, and conveys aesthetic strength and value that cannot be delivered via prose. The stories make a direct appeal to the auditory organ, penetrating into the deepest part of existence and signifying it. Scheherazade succeeded in telling stories for 1,001 days in the middle of uncertainty, risking her own life. Her stories have philosophical meanings to symbolize human existence and make her reemerge as a producer and creator.
