의식(viññāṇa)과 열반의 상관관계 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 불교수행에서 의식과 열반의 상관관계에 대해 알아봄으로서, 불교수행의 목표에 대한 바른 이해를 구하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 현행의식과 의식의 작용 그리고 불교수행을 통해 얻게 되는 열반에 대해 살펴보았다. 연구는 초기불교의 경전인 4부 니까야와 그의 주석서를 논거로 삼았다. 그리고 연구의 전개는 붓다가 계발한 불교전통의 수행론으로 접근하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해 현행의식을 재생의식, 이숙식, 잠재의식, 사심, 최후의식과 열반의식으로 구분할 수 있었다. 그리고 불교수행에서 현행의식이 인식, 식별, 통찰작용을 통해 통찰지혜와 결합되고 열반에 작용하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 불교수행의 궁극적 목표인 열반의 증득은 통찰지혜의 작용을 통한 의식의 변화와 밀접한 상관관계가 있다는 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to show the relationship between viññāṇa and nibbāna in Buddhist practice and to get a good understanding of the goals of Buddhist practice. To do this, we looked at the abhisaṇkhāraviññāṇa, the function of viññāṇa and the nibbāna that comes from Buddhist practice. The study was based on the four Nikaya of the early Buddhist scriptures and his commentary. And the study was approached throught the practice theory of Buddhist tradition that the Buddha developed. Through these study, we could distinguish the abhisaṇkhāraviññāṇa into the paṭisandhiviññāṇa, the bhavaṅgaviññāṇa, the vipākaviññāṇa, the anantaviññāṇa, the carimakaviññāṇa and the nibbānaviññāṇa. In the Buddhist practice, the abhisaṇkhāraviññāṇa is combined with the insight wisdom and it can be seen that it acts on nibbāna. Therefore, The ultimate goal of Buddhist practice, nibbāna, is closely related to the change of viññāṇa through the function of the insight wisdom.
