청소년의 ‘깊은 학습’(Learning-in-Depth) 실행 사례 분석:

국문 초록

이 연구는 우리의 학교교육이 학생들의 학습주도력 향상에 좀 더 적극적이어야 한다는 문제의식에서, 캐나다 교육학자 K. Egan이 제안한 ‘깊은 학습’(LiD)의 활용 가능성을 타진하고 효과적인 촉진 전략을 마련하려는 목적에서 이루어졌다. 총 8명 의 초등학교 6학년생을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 2017년 5월에서 7월, 실제 ‘깊은 학습’을 수행토록 하고 그 과정을 관찰하여 분석한 결과, 비록 10주라는 제한된 기간내에 진행된 깊은 학습이었지만, 단 1명의 연구 참여자를 제외한 7명의 학생들이 활 동을 끝까지 수행하였고 그 과정에서 학습 주제에 대한 관심 증대와 학습 내용의 점진적 심화, 그리고 학습주도에 대한 자신감 형성 등을 보임으로써 성공 수행 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 깊은 학습 수행 과정에서 노정된 어려움과 한계점을 확인함으로써 이를 해소할 수 있는 방향에서의 몇 가지 촉진 방안도 제시할 수 있었다. 본 연구자는 이 연구를 통하여 깊은 학습이 우리 학교교육에서 어떠한 의미를 지녔는지를 확인할 수 있었으며, 향후 본격적인 프로그램 개발과 후속 연구로 이어져 학교교육 혁신에 작은 전기가 되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on new concept, Learning-in-Depth (LiD) which proposed by Canadian professor Kieren Egan and explores the feasibility of the concept to Korean students and schools. Egan insists that if you provide students with long-term self-directed learning opportunities(LiD), they will surely earn their deep knowledge and gain academic leadership or self-directed learning capacity. But Egan does not produce empirical evidence on such claims. Will our teenagers be able to properly do learning-in-depth? What difficulties and limitations do they have when they perform learning-in-depth? The researcher thought it could be possible to apply for LiD to our school, only if we found the answer the questions. In this context, the researcher made an analysis of the LiD performance cases of eight 6th-graders in elementary school. The result of the study showes that the following points have been discovered: First, the students showed sufficient success for LiD, although it was very short period of time. As time passed, they showed making deepen their learning performances. Second, without any teaching or assignments, the students had difficulties for their self-directed learning, but they also showed gradual improvements in the solution such as using mind-map style , pretending to know each other . These findings enabled the researcher to verify that if the opportunities for LiD were offered to our teenagers, they would be able to successfully push ahead with that.
