국문 초록

본 연구에서는 영어교육의 이론과 실제의 불일치를 세 가지 측면에서 분석한다. 즉, 구술력 배양에 초점을 둔 영어교육 정책과 문해력 (대학수학능력)에 대한 현실적 요구와의 불일치, 언어습득 이론 중심의 교육과정과 평가 (수능) 중심의 학교교육과의 불일치, ESL 환경에 토대를 둔 영어교육 연구 방식과 그러한 연구 결과를 우리나라와 같은 EFL 교과교육적 환경에 적용하는 데에 있어서의 불일치에 대하여 검토하고, 이에 대한 대안으로 우리나라 학교교육의 현실을 반영하는 교과교육의 관점에서 영어과 교육정책과 교육과정을 재구조화할 것을 제안한다. 이를 위하여, 지금까지우리나라 영어교육의 이론적 토대로 기능하였던 의사소통중심교수법에 대하여 비판적으로 검토하고, 우리나라와 같은 영어교과교육 현실에 적합한 인지적 구성주의(The Cognitive Constructivism) 이론을 토대로 한 외국어로서 영어학습이론을 확립 하며, 그에 부합하는 학습 이론의 한 예로서 스크립트 이론(Script Theory) 기반 영어 교수·학습법을 제시함으로써 영어교육의 이론과 실제의 불일치 문제를 해결하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the discordance between the theory and the practice of English education in Korea from the three aspects─that is, the discordance between English policies focusing on the development of oracy (or communicative competence) and the actual needs for the development of literacy (or the academic ability for success in college), the discordance between the national curriculum based on language acquisition theory largely centered on communicative language teaching and the school education on the basis of language learning preparing for evaluation (or the eventual college scholastic ability test), and the discordance between English education studies grounded on the ESL theory and practice and their application to the EFL environments of subject matter education in Korea. The study provides a critical review of CLT in theory and practice, suggesting a way of restructuring the English education policy and the national curriculum in Korea from the perspective of subject matter education. For that matter, the study proposes establishing the theory and the practice of English as a foreign language learning based on the cognitive constructivism, and provides a model of English education based on script theory.
