국문 초록

본 연구는 1960년대 소설에 나타난 ‘자살’ 모티프를 중심으로 당대의 소설에 대한 지형도를 그리고 그 의미를 논구한다. 자살은 1960년대 소설을 특징 짓는 하나의 문학적 형식이었으며 내적 표상이었다. 또한 자살은 60년대 문인들이 진정한 자기세계를 구축하고 내적 윤리를 표상하는 하나의 형식이 되었다. 구체적으로 그것은 첫째, 60년대인들이 50년대 겪었던 전쟁의 혼란과 상흔을 털고 일상인으로서의 삶으로 복귀하게 하는 집단적 제의의 표상이 되었다. 둘째, 60년대 소설에서 자살은 의사(疑似)아버지에 대한 앙띠 오이디푸스의 상징물로 나타났는데 성장과 저항의 양가적?모순적 감정을 가지고 있는 근대인들에게 그것은 분열적 증상으로 구체화되었다. 셋째, 60년대 소설 속의 자살은 사랑과 미래적 개방성으로 나타났는데, 이는 비극적 결말의 표지가 아니라 가장 적극적 해석과 의미의 확산을 가져오는 계기가 되었다. 1960년대 소설에 대한 기존의 연구는 시대에 대한 저항, 극복, 모순, 지양 등과 같은 ‘대립과 극복’의 구도, 혹은 변증법의 구도를 떠올리게 하는 정반합의 논리로써 수행된 바가 많았다. 또한 세대론적 관점에 대한 고찰로써 당대 문학작품들의 의미를 구획화 하는 경우가 많았다. 본 연구는 이 시기의 소설들에 대한 새로운 의미규정의 축을 ‘자살’의 ‘윤리학’으로 구체화함으로써 새로운 해석과 의미생산의 지점들을 마련해 보고자 하였다.

영문 초록

This paper maps and interprets Korean novels in the 1960s in respect of the ‘suicide’ motif. Suicide was an intrinsic literary form that characterized the Korean novel of the 1960s. Suicide provided the writers of the 1960s with a form to create and represent their own worlds and ethics. It represented their deliberate reflections on their relationships with themselves as well as others. More specifically, suicide was represented as a collective ritual that enabled the people in the 1960s to help overcome the chaos and scars of the war in the 1950s and return to everyday life. In addition, suicide was a symbol of anti-Oedipus towards quasi-father, which was embodied in modern people’s mind as a schizophrenic symptom that exhibited ambivalent and contradictory feelings between growth and resistance. Finally, it represented love and the open-wide future with a more positive interpretation and meaning-making in contrast to the conventional tragic and terminal images attached to suicide. The 1960s novel has often been interpreted in terms of ‘conflict and resolution’ (resistance, contradiction, overcoming, and sublation) or dialectics (thesis-antithesis-synthesis). Also, its meaning has often been interpreted from a generational perspective. In contrast, this paper tried to interpret the 1960s novel in terms of the ethics of ‘suicide’ in order to prepare a basis for new interpretations and meanings.
