국문 초록

이 논문은 1678년(숙종 4)중앙정부의 동전유통 정책 실시 이 후 지방과 시장에서의 행전실태를 추적함으로서 조선후기 경제환경의 변화양상을 규명하는데 그 목적이 있다.이를 위해 암행어사 박만정(1648~1717)이 1696년(숙종 22)황해도를 염찰하고 기록한 해서암행일기를 분석했다.박만정 등이 암행 어사로 파견된 것은 연이은 자연재해에서 기인한 사회혼란에 대한 조사와 행 전책 단행 후 지방에서의 동전 유통 실태를 점검하기 위해서였다.박만정 일행은 황해도일대를 탐문하면서 동전을 이용하는데 큰 어려움이 없었으며,암행 어사가 조사한 관청 문서에서도 동전이 재정운영 등에 다각도로 이용되고 있었다.이러한 사실로 볼 때,17세기 말 이후부터 황해도 일대는 동전이 주류화폐로 부상하면서 새로운 경제 환경이 조성되기 시작했음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This essay explores coin circulation in the Choseon dynasty in the late 17th Century. This article analysed secret royal inspector Park Man-jeong’s diary to highlight the policy’s impact on the late Choseon dynasty’s local economy and economic environment. The diary describes his experiences and what he witnessed in the Hwanghae Province, the area in which he was deployed. The government decided to dispatch secret royal inspectors around the country, such as Park in the Hwanghae Province, to examine the efficiency of the currency policy, including mintage and circulation. Park travelled throughout his appointed cities and villages using coins to purchase commodities, meals, and lodging without inconvenience. Moreover, when he inspected the official accounting documents, he found that the local government used coins to increase their profits. Park’s diary illustrates that coin usage was popular, and coins have been the main source of currency used in the Hwanghae Province since the late 17th Century.
