‘아동으로부터 출발’의 교육적 재논의

국문 초록

아동중심교육이라는 용어에서 오는 ‘중심’의 개념은 ‘아동으로부터 출발’이라는 아동중심교육의 단일 공리를 ‘아동에 의한’으로 해석하는 오류를 범하며, 전통적 교사 중심교육 및 교과중심교육에 대한 대립적 개념인양 해석하여 왔다. 그러나 이는 ‘중 심’이라는 명칭과 양자의 극단적 강조점에서 온 오류로서 양자는 대립적이라기보다는 상보적 의미로 파악될 가능성과 필요성이 있다고 보인다. 이에 아동중심교육의 주요 사상가인 Rousseau, Key, Dewey로부터 ‘아동으로부터 출발’의 기존의 지향점 을 확인하고, 이에 대한 비판적 논의를 검토함으로써 ‘아동으로부터 출발’의 교육적 의미를 재 고찰하고자 하였다. 그 결과 ‘아동으로부터 출발’의 의미가 ‘아동에 의한 (by child)’교육의 강조라기보다는 ‘아동의(of child)’, ‘아동을 위한(for child)’, ‘아동과 함께하는(with child)’ 교육으로 확인되었으며, 이러한 결과는 아동중심교육이 전통적 교사중심이나 교과중심교육에 대한 단순 대립적 개념이 아니라 오히려 전통적 교사중심교육이나 교과중심교육에 대한 완성된 교육의 개념으로 파악된다. 즉, 전통적 교육에서 소외되었던 아동에 대한 이해와 아동을 위한 교육적 목적과 내용 및 방법의 선정, 그리고 이러한 교육을 수행하기 위하여 아동에 대한 다양성과 수월성에 대한 깊이 있는 관찰력, 고도의 직관력과 통찰력, 보편적 가치 판단력을 소유한 교사의 역할은 아동교육이 지향해야 할 방향에 대한 하나의 논의로서 시사점을 갖는다.

영문 초록

The concept of ‘center’ which comes from the term ‘child-centered education’ makes the mistake of interpreting the single axiom of child-centered education ‘from childhood’ as ‘child’s’, and confronts traditionalist teacher-centered, The concept has been interpreted. However, this seems to be a possibility and necessity to be grasped as a complementary meaning rather than an opposition as an error from the name of ‘center and extreme emphasis of both. The purpose of this study was to examine the educational implications of ‘starting from child by identifying the existing points of ‘starting from child from Rousseau, Key, and Dewey, major thinkers of child-centered education, and reviewing critical discussions. As a result, the meaning of ‘starting from child is not the emphasis of ‘by child education, but rather ‘of child , ‘for child , ‘with child The results of this study suggest that child-centered education is not a simple confrontational concept for traditional teacher-centered education, but rather a concept of complete education for traditional teacher-centered education. In other words, the understanding of children who were marginalized in traditional education, the educational purpose, the selection of contents and methods for children, and the in-depth observation of diversity and excellence in children, high intuition and insight, The role of the teacher who possesses value judgment has implications as a discussion about the direction of the child education.
