영유아 다문화교육에 대한 인식 실태 연구

국문 초록

최근 우리나라 인구 중 150만 명 이상은 외국인으로 한국사회는 이미 다문화사회로 진입하여 다문화사회가 중요한 가치로 등장하고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 다문화사회에서 영유아기 보호와 교육의 대표적기관인 어린이집 원장을 대상으로 다문화교육에 대한 인식과 실태를 알아보았다. 영유아 교육은 전인적인 성장을 위한 중요한 시기로 어린이집 교육의 책임자인 원장들의 다문화교육의 인식에 따라 교육의 질이 결정적으로 영향을 받는다. 이를 위해 천안시 어린이집원장들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하여 218명으로부터 응답을 받아 이를 바탕으로 자료를 분석하여 실시하였다. 그 결과 어린이집원장의 다문화교육에 관한 인식은 다문화교육을 현장에서 실천하는 것에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 결과 다문화교육 지도 경험이 있는 원장이 다문화 유아 지도 경험이 없는 원장에 비해 원장의 역할 및 태도에 영향을 미치는 요인이 높게 나타난 것으로 볼 때, 다문화교육과 관련된 연수경험이 인식의 차이에 유의미한 것으로 분석되었다. 이는 다문화교육에 대한 정보를 접할 수 있는 기회가 많아져 다문화교육에 대한 인식이 높아지고 이러한 인식이나 지식이 교육현장에서 다문화교육의 실제에 영향을 줄 수 있다고 분석할 수 있다. 이러한 결과로 볼 때 다문화교육 활성화를 위해 원장이 적극적이고 주도적으로 교사 연수나 교육의 기회를 제공할 때, 구체적이고 실질적인 교육이 다양한 측면에서 이루어져 다문화 교육활동이 활발히 진행될 것이다.

영문 초록

Recently, The number of foreigners living in Korean has reached 1.5 million in 2015. Korea has been a multicultural society for long, and the values to support multiculturalism have been called for. In the recognition of this need, this paper attempted to look into the current notion of multiculturalism and education practices for children from multicultural families in Korea. Since early childhood education greatly influences the holistic development of a person, one’s experience in daycare centers or nurseries can be momentous. Hence, this paper interviewed the directors of daycare centers or nurseries located in Cheonan. To do this, conducted a survey of Cheonan City day care center director received a response from 218 people was conducted by analyzing data based. Their answers revealed that there has been no clear notion of multiculturalism among the interviewees. Some of the responses were either prejudiced or biased. A significant difference was found between the directors who experienced multiculturalism training and who did not. One more meaningful finding was to verify that other variables like age and work experience affect the understanding of multiculturalism and influence the acceptance of it. The more the directors were exposed to multicultural environment or went through a training specifically targeting the education practices for children from multicultural families, the better their understanding of multiculturalism was and the more tolerant they were about the cultural differences. The result that this paper drew highlighted the need of building up a training program specifically targeting the directors and teachers who are under the multicultural circumstances. The training program should target not only eliminating the current prejudice against multicultural families but also enhancing the notion of multiculturalism. Multicultural education should be considered in on the level of society not on the level of individual educational facility. For this, it should be in connection with various local associations.
