국문 초록

이 글은 2024년도 검정통과한 중학교 사회과 교과서 가운데 지리, 공민, 역사 교과서를 중심으로 독도 관련 기술을 분석한다. 2017년 문부과학성에서는 일본초중학교 학습지도요령을 개정했다. 이에 따라 일본 중학교 사회과 교과서의 독도 관련 기술이 강화되고 있으며 최근에는 미래세대를 향한 영토 교육을 강화하고 있다. 이러한 맥락에서 이 글에서는 2024년 검정을 통과한 중학교 사회과 교과서의 독도 관련 기술 내용과 지도 등 관련 자료를 분석한다. 분석하는 핵심 내용은 독도 관련하여 ‘일본 고유의 영토’, ‘1905년 영토 편입’, ‘한국의 불법점거’, ‘일본 정부의 평화적 해결 노력’ 등이며 출판사에 따른 특징과 기술 변화를 제시한다. 기존과 달리 이승만 라인(평화선)에 대한 구체적 기술, 주권영토 전시관 관련 자료, 시마네현 ‘죽도의 날’ 기념식 등에 관한 기술이 추가되었다는 점을 밝힌다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes descriptions related to Dokdo in Japanese middle school social studies textbooks, focusing on geography, civics, and history textbooks that passed the 2024 certification process. In 2017, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) revised Japan’s elementary and middle school curriculum guidelines. Consequently, references to Dokdo in Japanese middle school social studies textbooks have been strengthened, reflecting the increased emphasis on territorial education for future generations. In this context, the study examines the content and related materials, including maps, from the 2024 certified middle school social studies textbooks. Key aspects of the analysis include statements such as “inherent Japanese territory,” “territorial incorporation in 1905,” “Korea’s illegal occupation,” and “Japan’s peaceful resolution efforts.” The paper also highlights publisher-specific characteristics and changes in descriptions. Additionally, this study reviews new and more detailed content, such as descriptions of the Syngman Rhee Line (Peace Line), materials related to the Sovereign Territory Exhibition Hall, and references to the Shimane Prefecture “Takeshima Day” commemoration ceremony. Through this analysis, the paper identifies the features and changes in the representation of Dokdo in Japanese middle school textbooks and critically evaluates their content.
