중국어 수량구의 속성과 사용 제약에 대한 고찰 - 수량목적어를 중심으로

국문 초록

중국어에서 수량구는 생략될 경우 비문이 되는가 하면 특정한 언어환경에서는 사용이 제한될 때도 있다. 본고에서는 ‘数量+名’ 형식의 수량목적어를 주요 논의 대상으로 하며, 일부 구문에서 출현에 제약이 따르는 것과 관련해 중국어의 수량구가 지닌 본질적 속성을 토대로 이들의 사용과 제약에 대해 살펴보았다. 특히 ‘他正在喝一杯咖啡’와 같이 진행형과 수량구가 공기한 문장이 모국어 화자의 어감상 어색한 표현인 이유와 독립된 문장으로서 수용도가 낮은 까닭은 발화 의도의 모호함에서 비롯된 것임을 확인하였다. 하지만 수량이 초점으로 작용하지 않는 문맥에서 정보의 현저성에 있어 수량적 의미보다는 지시물 자체의 상태가 활성화되는 경우, ‘有界’와 ‘无界’의 상대적 개념에 근거해 목적어의 ‘界(경계성)’ 성격이 약화됨으로 진행형과도 공기 관계를 이루는 것을 설명하였다.

영문 초록

In Chinese, quantity phrases can result in an ungrammatical sentence or lead to restricted usage in certain linguistic contexts when omitted. This study mainly focused on the quantity phrases in the form of ‘数量+名’ and examined the use and the constraints of quantity phrases based on their essential properties in Chinese, in relation to the constraints on their use in some syntaxes. In particular, this study showed the reason why a sentence with progressive and quantity phrases, such as ‘他正在喝一杯咖啡’, sounds awkward in nuance when expressed by native speakers and have low acceptability as independent sentences is due to the ambiguity of the utterance intention. However, this study also demonstrated that activation in the state of the referent itself rather than the quantitative meaning in terms of the salience of information forms cooccurrence with the progressive tense as the ‘界 (boundary)’ nature of the object is weakened based on the relative concepts of ‘有界’ and ‘无界’ in a context where the focus is not on quantity. Consequently, the issue of the acceptability and constraints of sentences like '他正在喝一杯咖啡' is closely related to contextual information and the domain of discourse meaning. The reason such expressions sound awkward in Chinese is that an accurate interpretation requires not only syntactic analysis but also an understanding of their semantic relationships.
