해외 대학 한국어 전공 과정 내 국내 교환학생 프로그램이 학습자의 학습 동기 및 태도에 미치는 영향 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 국내 교환학생 프로그램을 포함하고 있는 해외 대학의 한국어 전공 교육과정에 대한 것으로, 한국어 전공 학생들의 학습 동기 및 태도가 교환학생 프로그램 경험을 중심으로 어떤 변화가 있는지를 알아보는 데에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 영국 셰필드대학교 한국학과의 교육과정을 사례로 삼았는데, 영국 셰필드대학교는 총 4학년의 한국어 교육과정 중 1년 간의 국내 교환학생 프로그램 이수를 필수적으로 포함하고 있는 특징이 있다. 이번 연구에서는 셰필드대학교 한국학과 학부 1~4학년 과정생을 대상으로 한국어 학습 동기, 한국과 한국 문화에 대한 태도 등을 알아보는 설문조사를 실시하여 통계분석하고, 셰필드대학교 및 국내 교환학생 프로그램을 모두 경험한 4학년 학생에게 보충 인터뷰를 실시하여 설문조사의 질적 해석력을 높였다. 연구 결과, 셰필드대학교 한국학과 학생들은 대부분 입학 당시 한국어를 처음 배우기 시작하고 교환학생 프로그램을 통해 한국에 처음 체류하는 경험을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 기초 한국어에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 자연스러운 학습 맥락의 이동을 도모할 수 있는 교육과정 및 국내외 연계 프로그램이 필요함을 알 수 있었다. 또한 한국어로 이야기하는 것에 대한 불안이 교환학생 경험을 통해 다소 감소하기는 하였으나 여전히 높은 수준으로 나타나, 구어 의사소통에 대한 교육적 처치가 요구되었다. 마지막으로, 교환학생 경험을 통해 한국어가 더욱 재미있다고 느끼거나 학습 목표 및 동기가 강화된 사례를 발견할 수 있어, 졸업 전까지 목표를 구체화하고 진로로 연계할 수 있도록 하는 교육이나 동아리 활동 등을 지원할 필요가 제기되었다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine how learners majoring in the Korean language program at overseas universities change their motivations and attitudes toward Korean language learning after experiencing exchange student programs in Korea. The data was retrieved from students in the first to fourth years of the Korean Studies Department at the University of Sheffield, which requires the completion of one year of the exchange student program in Korea out of a total of four years of the Korean language curriculum. First, statistical analysis was conducted through a survey of the students’ motives for Korean language learning and their attitudes toward Korea and Korean culture. Second, in order to improve the qualitative interpretation of the survey, supplementary interviews were conducted with fourth-year students who had experienced both the University of Sheffield and exchange programs in Korea. This study found that most of the students of the Korean Studies department at the University of Sheffield started learning the Korean language for the first time at the time of admission and experienced their first stay in Korea through the exchange student program. Therefore, it is necessary to develop both a curriculum that can promote efficient learning based on understanding of the primary Korean language and a program that is linked with Korea and overseas are needed. Moreover, while students' anxiety about speaking in Korean was to some degree reduced after their experience of the exchange program, it was still at a high level. Therefore educational treatment for oral communication was required. Finally, we found cases in which the experience of the exchange program enhanced students’ motivation for learning the Korean language and achieving a higher level. Accordingly, there was a need to support education and club activities that allow students to specify their goals before graduation and link them to their career paths.
