국문 초록

<어느 주름진 교도관의 독백>은 이준영의 수기로 6. 25전쟁 중 대전형무소에서 벌어진 참상을 기록하고 있다. 이준영은 형무관 신분으로 6. 25전쟁 중 대전형무소에서 인민군에 의해 학살당한 반공인사들의 시신을 수습하고 그 현장을 지휘한 인물이다. 이 연구에서는 <어느 주름진 교도관의 독백>을 중심으로 수기에 나타난 이야기 양상과 문체적 특징, 현대사적 관점에서 수기가 갖는 가치에 관해 살펴보았다. 그 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 저자와 수기의 내용에 관해 살펴보았다. 수기의 저자인 이준영은 1946년에 형무관 학교를 수료하고 22세 나이에 미군정(美軍政) 형무관 5기생으로 임용되었다. 1973년 퇴임하기까지 대전형무소에서 근무하며 그곳에서 간수부장과 특별경비대 선임분대장을 지냈다. 수기 내용은 총 13편의 각 편으로 구성되어 있다. 둘째, 수기의 이야기 양상과 문체적 특징에 관해 살펴보았다. 이야기 양상은 대전형무소 특경대 창설 배경, 6. 25전쟁 중 7월 1일 벌어진 공직자 이탈 사건인 7.1 사건, 인민군이 반공인사를 학살한 우물 사건, 재소자와 출소자의 사연이 실려 있다. 이야기 양상을 통해 본 문체적 특징으로는 전쟁의 참상을 설명적 묘사로 구체적으로 진술하고 있으며, 재소자들에게는 설득의 화법으로 그들의 교화에 힘썼다. 셋째, 수기가 갖는 가치에 관해 살펴보았다. <어느 주름진 교도관의 독백>은 이준영이 형무관으로서 자신이 경험했던 사실을 바탕으로 작성한 수기이다. 개인 삶의 기록보다 6. 25전쟁 전 대전형무소의 재소자 수를 가늠할 수 있는 다양한 진술과 6. 25전쟁 중 형무소에서 벌어진 일들을 기록하고 있다. 현대사적 관점에서 수기의 시대적인 배경이 되는 1946년에서 1972년까지의 시대 상황을 알 수 있는 사료로서의 가치가 크다는 점에서 이 수기가 갖는 의미는 남다르다 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

is a memoir by Lee Junyoung, recording the atrocities unfolded at Daejeon Prison during the Korean War. Lee Junyoung was a prison guard. Lee collected bodies of anti-communist figures massacred by the People’s Army at Daejeon Prison, leading the collection operation. This research focuses on to examine various aspects of narratives, characteristics of styles, and the value of the memoir from the perspective of modern history. The contents of the research are summarized in the following. First, the author and the contents of the memoir have been reviewed. Lee Junyoung completed correction officer school in 1946, and was employed at 22 years old age as the 5th class correctional officer under the United States Army Military Government. Until he retired in 1973, he worked at the Daejeon Prison and held various positions including correctional officer department head and senior section leader for special security detail. The memoir includes 13 chapters. Secondly, aspects of the narratives of the memoir and their characteristics in style have been reviewed. The aspects of the narrative include the background on the introduction of special security details at Daejeon Prison, 7.1 Incident where a band of public servants deserted on July 1 during the Korean War, the Well Incident where the People‘s Army massacred anti-communist figures, and other stories of who served and completed their sentences from prison. Lee’s style can be seen from the aspects of the narrative presented. His essay states the atrocities of the war from the objective perspective with descriptive depiction, and attempts to bring unbiased views in each incident suppressing his emotions. Thirdly, the value of the memoir has been examined. is a memoir of Lee Junyoung based on his experience as a correctional officer. More significantly than a trace of the life of an individual, his work records events transpired in a special environment of Daejeon Prison during the Korean War. Therefore, it retains significance as a historical source.
