[온라인 영어교육] 언택트 환경에서 영어표현능력 신장을 위한 On / Off-line 수업의 설계와 실제

국문 초록

이 연구는 초등학생들을 대상으로 언택트 환경에서 On-line과 Off-line 수업의 병행 수업의 설계 방법과 실행을 통해 영어표현기능을 향상시킬 방법을 모색해보고자 실시되었다. 본 연구에서는 수업공백 기간 동안 제공된 원격가정학습의 한계를 살펴본 후, 영어 습득에 중요한 요소와 이들 중 결핍된 요소를 보완할 방법을 모색하였다. 먼저, On-line 활동과 Off-line 활동을 혼합한 수업의 설계 절차를 살펴보고, 이들을 실제 수업에 적용시킨 사례를 제시하였다. 원격가정학습(On-line)을 통해 어휘 학습, 듣기, 읽기 중심 학습 기회를 제공하고, 대면수업(Off-line)에서는 말하기와 쓰기 중심의 활동을 하며, Zoom을 활용하여(On-line) 목표표현의 습득 여부를 간단히 확인하였다. 또한, 모든 과제는 학급 커뮤니티를 통해 즉각적, 직관적, 구체적인 피드백을 제공하였다. On-line 수업과 Off-line 수업을 병행하여 운영한 결과, 늦춰진 개학으로 인한 공백기 동안의 영어학습 결손을 어느 정도 보완할 수 있었고, 영어 의사소통능력 측면에서는 말하기와 쓰기 기능에 두드러진 변화가 있었다. 또한, 원격가정학습 사이트 활용, 학급커뮤니티를 통한 과제 제출, 태블릿 PC와 Zoom 프로그램의 다양한 기능을 활용하며 학생들의 미디어 활용 능력이 향상되었다. 마지막으로, ‘영포자의 악순화 고리’의 첫 단추인 ‘영어에 대한 흥미’를 향상시킬 수 있었다. 결론적으로, 언택트(Untact) 중심 환경에서는 컨택트(Contact) 상황과 언택트(Untact) 상황에 맞는 수업 활동을 적절히 제공하여 학습자의 영어의사소통능력과 영어에 대한 흥미를 최대치로 올려야 할 것이다. 다만, 열악한 환경에 놓인 학습자를 원격수업에 참여시킬 수 있는 방법, 적합한 과제의 선택, 대면학습 그룹과 비대면학습 그룹의 동시 수업 참여 방법, 언택트(Untact) 상황에서의 협력활동 방안에 대한 모색이 필요할 것 같다.

영문 초록

This study aims to find out the design and practice for on/off-line English classes to enhance English production skills under untact circumstances for elementary school students. This study also examines the limitations and effects of on-line classes during the blank period before schools’ official start and looks at previous studies on important elements for English acquisition and explores how to compensate for the lost parts of those elements above. This study shows the procedure for designing on-line and off-line blended lessons and examples of how the actual lessons were presented. Through on-line classes or activities, students learn target expressions, practice listening and reading while off-line classes provide speaking and writing activities. With the Zoom program, participants can be provided feedback for what and how they use their target expressions. All the tasks that participants complete are uploaded onto on-line class community and get instant, intuitive, and detailed feedback. As a result of on-line and off-line blended English class, students could compensate for the loss of English skills due to delayed school start and they showed outstanding development in speaking and writing skills. Second, with the use of on-line class, class community, tablet PC and programs including Zoom, students’ ability to use ICT have improved. Last, through this on-line and off-line blended classes and activities, students’ interest in English could improve. So the first step of this vicious cycle of students who give up English could grow up. In conclusion, with appropriate type of class according to their circumstances; contact or untact, we should make students’ better English communication skills and their interest in learning English. However, we should find out how to get unprivileged students involved in on-line classes and how to let facial and non-facial learning groups participate in one class at the same time, and how to make students cooperate with each other under the untact circumstances, and which type of task will be given in the further study.
