[온라인 영어교육] 실시간 원격 영어수업을 위한 수업 설계 및 실제

국문 초록

이 연구는 실시간 원격 영어수업을 위한 수업 설계 방법과 실제를 살펴보고, 초등학생들을 대상으로 어떻게 효과적인 영어 수업을 할 수 있을지 모색해보고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 과제 제시형 수업이 가지는 한계를 살펴본 후, 미디어 리터러시와 관련된 선행 연구들을 살펴보았다. 그 다음, 수업 설계 절차를 알아보고, 실제 수업이 어떻게 운영되었는지 사례를 제시하였다. 실시간 원격 영어수업 활동 사례로는 간단한 인사 주고 받기, 공유 화면에 글씨 쓰기, 퀴즈 풀기, 교과서 활동 지도하기, 실시간 의견 교환하기 등이 있다. 수업을 실시간 원격으로 운영한 결과, 영어 의사소통능력 측면에서는 학생들이 과제 제시형 수업보다 수업 내용에 대한 이해도가 높았으며, 학생들의 영어 말하기 활동에 유리하였다. 정보활용능력 측면에서는 처음 수업이 진행되기 전, 초상권 및 저작권에 대한 교육을 한 후에 수업을 실시하여 부정적인 활용 사례 없었다. 그리고 원격 프로그램의 다양한 기능을 활용하며 학생들의 미디어 활용능력이 우수해졌다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 참여도 측면에서는 학생들이 처음 접속하는데 어려움이 있었으나 수업 횟수가 거듭될수록 참여율이 증가하였다. 그리고 학생들이 처음에는 발표를 주저하였는데 나중에는 개인 발표도 자신 있게 하는 모습을 보였다. 결론적으로 말하자면, 과제 제시형 수업보다 실시간 쌍방향 수업이 영어수업에 더욱 적합하다고 볼 수 있다. 다만, 수업 설계 시 학생들이 연속하여 집중 가능한 시간과 참여 인원을 고려해야 할 것이다. 향후 연구에서는 더욱 다양한 실시간 원격 영어수업 설계 및 사례를 공유한다면 사회적 상황에 따라 원격 수업을 실시해야 하는 교사들에게 도움이 될 것이다.

영문 초록

This study aims to find out the design and practice for live online English classes and to explore how English classes can be provided effectively for elementary school students. Also, this study examines the limitations of task-presented online classes and looks at previous studies related to media literacy. This study shows the procedure for designing lessons and examples of how the actual lessons were presented. Examples activities of the live online English class are saying hello to each other, writing letters on the shared screen, quizzes, doing a textbook activity, exchanging opinions, etc. As a result of live online English class, for English communication skills, students had a higher understanding of the lesson content than the task-presented online class and students were more engaged in English speaking activities. For ICT skills, education on portrait rights and copyrights were held before the first live online class, so there weren’t any negative use by students. In addition, students media literacy has improved by utilizing various functions of the online program. Last of all, for participation, students had difficulty accessing for the first time, but the participation rate increased as the classes took place. In the beginning, students hesitated to speak but later showed confidence in speaking online. In conclusion, live online classes are more suitable for English classes than task-presented online classes. However, when designing a live online class, it is necessary to consider the length of time that students can concentrate on and the number of participants. In the following study, if more various live online English class designs and examples are shared, it will be helpful to teachers who need to conduct distance learning according to social situations.
