국문 초록

해방 후 소설 가운데에는 ‘소년’이 중심에 놓인 작품이 많다. 이 가운데 혁명적 정치성의 이념과 관련된 작품이 가장 많은데, 이들 작품 속 ‘소년’은 그 이념을 전적으로 좇아 앞만 보고 나아가는 자기확신의 존재이다. 이런 ‘소년’이 열어가는 ‘소년의 행로’는 무비판적 이념 추종, 자기 확신, 타자 배제의 이분법, 폭력성 등의 특성을 지니고 있다. 이런 여러 특성이 작품을 단일성에 가둔다. 물론, 작품의 다른 요소와 만나 단일성에서 벗어난 경우도 있다. 한편, ｢소년은 자란다｣의 ‘소년’은 고아 상태에 놓인 존재로서 궁핍한 현실을 비판적으로 성찰하면서 앞길을 열어 나아가는 주체적, 미래지향적인 존재이다. 이 작품의 내적 형식은 ‘고아의 행로’이다. 이 행로는 궁핍한 시대를 반영하는 서사 형식으로, 겉은 미래를 지향하는 진취성과 낙관성으로 밝지만, 안은 부정의식․환멸․절망감 등으로 어둡다. 이처럼 안팎이 다른 ‘고아의 행로’는 이중성의 형식이다. 채만식은 이런 이중성의 형식을 가운데 놓고, 해방 후의 궁핍한 현실을 깊이 파헤치는 비판적 성찰의 세계를 일구었다. 한편, ｢채석장의 소년｣은 자기반성을 통해 자신을 갱신하면서, 서로 도우며 앞길을 열어 나아가는 자기반성적․미래지향적 존재들인 ‘소년들’의 행로가 축인 소설이다. 염치, 자존심 등 시공간의 구속에서 자유로운 보편적인 가치들을 좇아 어깨 겯고 나아가는 ‘소년들의 행로’는 국가 수립 이후의 시대적 과제를 담고 있다.

영문 초록

Many of the post-liberation novels have ‘boys’ at the center. Among them, there are many works related to the ideology of revolutionary politics, and the ‘boy’ in these works is a self-confident creature that follows the ideology entirely and moves forward. The boy s path that this boy opens has characteristics such as non-judgmental adherence to ideology, self-confidence, dichotomy of hitter exclusion and violence. Many of these characteristics confine the work to monotony. Of course, there are times when you meet other elements of the work and deviate from monotony. Meanwhile, “boys grow up(소년은 자란다)”’s boy is an orphaned, self-directed, future-oriented creature that opens its way, critically reflecting on the poor reality. The inner form of this work is the ‘path of the orphan The path is in an epic form reflecting the times of need, and is bright on the outside with initiative and optimism toward the future, but dark inside with a sense of injustice, disillusionment and despair. The “path of an orphan” with different sides in and out is an dualistic. Chae Man-sik laid this dualistic form in the middle, and built a world of critical reflection that delves deeply into the destitute reality after liberation. Meanwhile, “boys in the quarry(채석장의 소년)” is a novel inspired by the path of ‘boys,’ a self-reflective and futuristic presence that renews itself through self-reflection, helping each other open their way forward. The ‘path of boys’ which shoulder-to-shoulder in pursuit of universal values such as self-esteem, shame, contains the challenges of the post-state era.
