김윤식의 수다한 작업과 사상적 변화와에도 불구하고 우리가 거기서 하나의 일관성을 찾을 수 있다면, 그것은 문학이라는 형식, 특히 소설이라는 형식이 근대의 이질적 경험들의 개별성을 총체화하는 특권적 형식이라는 믿음이었을 것이다. 문학 형식, 소설 형식의 총체화 능력이야말로 김윤식에게는 문학 이유(raison littéraire)였다. 이 글에서는 우선 김윤식의 ‘사상가’로서의 면모를 보여준다고 생각되는 몇몇 독창적 개념들-이를테면 가치중립성 혹은 제도로서의 근대론의 성격을 그의 문학 형식에 대한 탐구와 관련해 논한다. 이어서 김윤식이 구상한 소위 이념형의 문학 형식, 예컨대 루카치식의 소설사론(이른바, ‘성숙한 남성의 형식’론)이 차질을 빚는 대목들-예컨대 여성작가론의 몇 대목에 대해 질문해봄으로써 김윤식 사상을 그 균열지점과 김윤식 이후의 남겨진 시간이 요청하는 소설론의 성격을 가늠해 보았다. 보다 구체적으로는 김윤식이 박완서, 최명희, 오정희 등 여성작가들을 해석하는 과정에서 보여준 역사적 변증이 없는 형식에 대한 공포, 지금 여기의 근거가 아니라 영원한 시간을 다루는 형식에 대한 위화감, 인과성과 시간의 축을 흔드는 미궁의 서사에 대한 곤혹 등을 주요 분석 지점으로 삼았다. 그러니까 그 자신의 소설론으로 인해 일종의 젠더 트러블이 발생한 것이다. 김윤식 문학사의 잔여, 즉 여성문학론의 공백에 주목해 볼 때, ‘근대소설’이란 근대의 시작점에 놓였던 혁명과 저항의 형제애와 그 기반인 새로운 가족로망스가 불가능해지는 지점에서 시작된 형식일 수 있다. 성숙한 상태의 멜랑콜리는 분열적 체험을 낳았고 이를 다시 봉합하는 총체화의 시도가 바로 ‘성숙한 남성의 형식’으로서의 소설이었다.

영문 초록

In spite of Kim Yoon-shik’s numerous works and methodological changes, we can find a consistency there. It would have been the belief that the form of literature, especially the novel, is a privileged form of the totalization for the individualities of modern disparate experiences. The totalization ability of the novel form was the reason of literature for Kim Yoon-shik. In this article, I focuse on some of the original ideas that seem to show Kim Yoon-shik as a theorist—such as value neutrality or modernity as an institution. And then, I comment on Kim’s theory of literary form, such as inspirational passages from the Lukács Györg. Especially, I write about how the so-called art-form of virile maturity=novel’ poses a major obstacle to criticism of Korean female writers. This is not to expose the crack of Kim s theory, but to ask what kind of novel theory is necessary for us now here. Kim interpreted Korean female writers such as Park Wan-seo, Choi Myung-hee and Oh Jung-hee as follows. Form without historical dialectic, form not dealing with now here, but dealing with eternal time, a narrative of a labyrinth that shakes causality and time axis. I call this the gender trouble of Korean literature theory in Kim and his generation. It is worth paying attention to the remnant of Kim s literary theory, that is, the blank or remnant of the theory on women’s writing. The time that remain after Kim Yoon-shik. What is the novel again? It is now time to think together about the ‘modern’ novel, the form that began from the point where the brotherhood of revolution and resistance at the beginning of modernity and the foundation of family romance is no longer possible. Are we in-between art-form of virile maturity and coming form or already live in the other coming form?
