수학 수업의 계산기 사용과 중학교 수학 성취도에 대한 국가별 비교

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 중학교 수학 수업에서 계산기 사용 정도를 분석하고 계산기 사용 정도와 수학 성취도의 관련성을 밝히는 것이다. 구체적인 연구문제는 첫째, 국가 별로 중학교 수학 수업에서 계산기를 어느 정도로 사용하는가를 밝히는 것이고, 둘째, 중학교 수학 수업에서 계산기 사용은 학생들의 수학 성취도와 관련이 있는가를 밝히는 것이다. 이를 위해 TIMSS 2015를 바탕으로 수학 성취도가 국제평균 이상인 18개국의 교사 설문 자료를 분석하고 교사 설문의 결과와 학생들의 수학 성취도를 연계하여 분석하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 중학교 수학 수업에서 계산기를 사용하는 것은 국제적으로 일반화된 경향이었다. 다만, 우리나라는 러시아연방, 대만과 더불어 수학 수업 중에 계산기를 사용하지 않는 편이었다. 그리고 계산기 사용 정도와 수학 성취도 간에 유의한 결과는 일반적인 경향은 아니고 일부 국가에서만 나타났다. 호주와 미국에서는 계산기를 무제한적으로 사용하는 학생들의 성취도가 제한적으로 사용하거나 사용하지 않는 학생들의 성취도가 높았고, 일본과 카자흐스탄에서는 계산기를 사용하지 않는 학생들의 성취도가 계산기를 사용한 학생들의 성취도보다 높았다. 우리나라는 계산기 사용 정도와 성취도 간에 유의한 차이가 없었다.

영문 초록

The aims of this study are to identify how many middle school students use calculators in math lessons in 18 countries and to analyse the relation between using calculators in math lessons and math achievements. Concretely, this study analyzes the ratio of middle school students using calculators in math lessons in 18 countries and the relation between using calculators in math lessons and math achievements by the eighth grade mathematics test of TIMSS 2015 and the survey for math teachers of TIMSS 2015. The results of this study are two. One is that eighth grade students in 18 countries usually use calculators in math lessons, but students in Russian Federation, South Korea and Taiwan rarely use calculators in math lessons. The other result is the relation between using calculators in math lessons and the achievements of the math was identified in some countries. In Australia and USA, students with using calculators unlimitedly have higher achievements than students using calculators limitedly. In Japan Kazakhstan, students without using calculators have higher achievements than students with using calculators. There is no significant relation between the achievement of students using calculators and the achievement of students without using calculators in South Korea
