영어교과 마이크로티칭과 실제 영어 수업에 대한 예비교사들의 성찰 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 영어교과 마이크로티칭과 실제 영어 수업 환경의 차이점들을 비교하고 이 두 환경에서 요구되는 교사의 능력이 어떻게 다른지를 예비 영어교사들의 시점에서 분석해봄으로써 영어 교과 마이크로티칭의 평가도구를 개선할 방안을 모색해 보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 국내 한 대학의 영어교육과에 재학하는 21명의 예비영어교사들을 대상으로 교생실습을 마치고 성찰지를 작성해서 제출 하도록 했다. 그들이 교생실습 기간 동안 경험한 실제 영어수업에서 요구되는 교사의 능력과 그 전 학기에 실시했던 마이크로티칭 경험을 비교/대조하는 내용을 담은 성찰일지를 수집하여, 귀납적 논리체계에 근거해서 독립된 항목을 추출하는 방식으로 자료를 분석했다. 마이크로티칭과 일반 영어수업과의 가장 큰 차이점으로 나타난 것은 실제 학생들과의 상호 작용 여부였다. 실제 영어수업에서 예비교사들이 주목한 수업 능력은 수업 운영과 수업 기술, 수업 계획의 요소들 순이었다. 이에 대한 마이 크로티칭 지도 및 평가의 개선 방안들이 제시되었고, 교사의 전문성을 계발하는 데있어서 성찰법의 중요성이 논의되었다.

영문 초록

This paper was motivated by the needs to identify teaching abilities recognized by pre-service English teachers in an English education program. This study examines (1) the differences between microteaching and real classroom teaching experienced by pre-service English teachers and (2) what elements of teaching abilities they pay attention to in their own lessons. The pre-service English teachers were asked to reflect on both of their microteaching and real English class they had conducted. Drawing on the inductive logic of qualitative study, the reflective essays were collected from 21 pre-service teachers who completed their English teaching practicum. One of the salient characteristics of real classroom teaching was the students’ presence, which seems to affect the pre-service teachers’ lesson planning and classroom management. In exploring which aspects the pre-service teachers focus on in the real classroom, the criteria of the classroom management turned out to be the most challenging to the beginning pre-service teachers. Regarding the affective aspects which cannot be directly observed in microteaching evaluation, reflective approach may be used as part of the evaluation tools that can probe the unobservable qualifications. This paper suggests a few implications for teacher education programs to improve microteaching training and its evaluation tools to better assess pre-service English teachers teaching performance.
