국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 내용 생성 활동에 초점을 둔 사전 글쓰기 활동이 고등학생 영어 글쓰기 능력에 미치는 효과를 조사하는 것에 있다. 청주의 한 여자고등학교 영자신문 동아리원을 대상으로 실험집단 A는 질문을 활용한 구조적 내용 생성 활동을, 실 험집단 B는 브레인스토밍을 이용한 비구조적 내용 생성 활동을 수행하였다. 조직하기, 개요 작성하기까지 완료한 후 참가자들은 글쓰기를 수행하였으며, 실험은 총 4회에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 사후검사 결과와 전체 회차 글쓰기를 종합한 결과에서 실험집 단 A와 B의 영어 쓰기 질은 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 그러나 두 실험집단 모두 사후검사 결과와 전체 회차 종합 결과에서 사전검사 결과보다 글쓰기 총점이 더 높았으며, 그 차이는 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 이러한 결과를 활동에 사용된 질문의 성격과 그로 인한 글의 내용 전개 방식의 편향성, 사전 글쓰기 시간 제공 여부, 실험참가자의 영어 사용 능숙도 측면에서 논의하였다. 마지막으로 내용 생성활동의 본질에 비추어 본 연구가 가지는 한계를 지적하고, 추후의 연구 방 향과 관련하여 제언을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of pre-writing activity focusing on the content generation upon high school students’ English writing competence. The participants in the experiment are twenty members of an English newspaper club in a girl’s high school in Cheongju. Group A used a question-based, structured content generation activity, and group B an unstructured brainstorming activity. After pre-writing which consisted of content generation, organization, and outline making, individual writing was conducted. The experimental result of the four-timed writing sessions shows that the writing qualities of both groups are not significantly different in the combined results of four while-experiment writing products and the post-test writing results. However, both groups made a statistically significant improvement of total score in the combined results of the four while-experiment writing products and the post-test writing results compared to the results of pre-test writing. The meaning of the result was discussed in terms of the characteristics of the questions used in the experiment and its influence on the way in which for the writings to be developed, whether the time for pre-writing was provided, and English proficiency of participants. The limit of the study was mentioned in the light of the participants composition and the nature of content generation, and some suggestions were made for further studies.
