국문 초록

본 연구는 인문지리학의 장소, 장소성, 장소 상실 개념을 토대로 라띠 꾸말라의 『버따위 연대기』에 구현된 자카르타의 장소성과 토착민 버따위 사람들이 경험하는 장소 상실을 고찰하였다. 작품은 버따위 공동체가 뿌리내린 자카르타가 오랜 세월 이들에게 안정과 정체성이라는 거주의 본질을 담지하는 삶의 토대로 여겨져 왔음을 그려낸다. 곳곳의 고유한 자연환경과 과거 이 도시에 살았던 사람들의 삶의 흔적은 장소와 그들 간의 유대와 애착을 두텁게 연결하는 유의미한 매개로 기능해 왔다. 그러나 도시 개발은 집과 같은 공간에서 이들이 쌓아온 애착, 친밀함, 안락함의 상실을 초래했다. 또한 풍요로운 자연경관과의 교감, 공동체가 공유하던 기억이 사라진 자카르타는 장소 상실의 공간이 되어 버린다. 더욱이 삶과 생계의 토대였던 토지를 잃고 변두리로 내몰린 상황은 장소를 상실한 내지의 이방인으로 이들을 위치시켜 박탈감과 무력감을 안겨준다. 인도네시아의 신수도 개발을 앞두고 원주민 관련 다양한 문제와 우려가 제시되는 현 지점에서 『버따위 연대기』에 그려진 장소성, 사람과 장소와의 관계 맺음, 그리고 장소의 변형으로 인한 장소 상실 문제가 신수도 누산따라에서 전개될 수 있는 원주민의 뿌리 뽑힌 삶에 대한 진지한 사유를 제시할 수 있기를 기대해 본다.

영문 초록

This study aims to discuss Jakarta's placeness and the placenessless experienced by the Betawi people in Ratih Kumala's Kronik Betawi. By reflecting on the concepts of place, placeness, and placelessness of humanistic geography, it examines how Kronik Betawi depicts Jakarta, where the Betawi community is rooted, has long been considered as the foundation of their lives that embodies the essence of their residence: stability and identity. However, urban development has resulted in the loss of the attachment and intimacy they have built up in their home-like spaces. Additionally, Jakarta becomes a place of placeness for them as communion --with its rich natural scenery and memomories that have shared by Betawi community-- disappeared. Moreover, their loss of land, which was the foundation of their lives positions Betawi people as strangers that have lost their place. As various issues and concerns related to indigenous peoples being raised ahead of the development of Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara, the meaning of the relationship between the place and the residents, and the placelessness experienced by the residents due to the transformation of the place, which is illustrated in Kronik Betawi, can be said has significant implications.
