국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 경찰공무원의 문화성향과 다문화수용성 간의 관계에서 다문화경험의 매개효과를 분석하는 것이다. 한국 사회의 다문화적 변화와 외국인주민의 증가로 인해 경찰공무원들은 다양한 문화적 배경을 가진 사람들과 상호작용할 필요성이 높아지고 있다. 이에 경찰공무원의 문화성향, 다문화경험, 다문화수용성이 어떻게 상호작용하는지를 분석하여 정책적·실천적 시사점을 도출하고자 연구를 수행하였다. 통계분석 결과, 경찰공무원의 문화성향은 다문화수용성과 정(+)의 상관관계를 보였다. 이는 문화성향이 긍정적으로 형성됨에 따라 다문화수용성이 높아진다는 것을 의미한다. 또한, 다문화경험은 문화성향과 다문화수용성 간의 관계에서 부분 매개효과를 나타내었다. 이는 경찰공무원의 문화성향이 다문화경험을 통해 다문화수용성에 미치는 영향이 있음을 시사한다. 따라서 경찰공무원의 다문화수용성을 높이기 위해 경찰 조직 내에서 다문화 교육 프로그램을 강화하고, 다양한 다문화경험을 제공할 수 있는 기회를 마련할 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 다문화사회로 전환되고 있는 한국 사회에서 경찰공무원의 역할과 중요성을 재확인하고, 경찰공무원의 다문화수용성을 높이기 위한 정책적·실천적 방안을 제시하고자 하였다는 데 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the mediating effect of multicultural experience on the relationship between police officers' cultural orientation and multicultural acceptance. With the multicultural changes in Korean society and the increase in foreign residents, police officers need to interact with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. This study aims to derive policy and practical implications by analyzing how police officers' cultural orientation, multicultural experience, and multicultural acceptance interact. The statistical analysis results showed that police officers' cultural orientation has a positive correlation with multicultural acceptance. This implies that as cultural orientation becomes more positive, multicultural acceptance increases. Additionally, multicultural experience showed a partial mediating effect on the relationship between cultural orientation and multicultural acceptance. This indicates that the cultural orientation of police officers influences multicultural acceptance through multicultural experience. Therefore, to enhance the multicultural acceptance of police officers, it is necessary to strengthen multicultural education programs within police organizations and provide opportunities for various multicultural experiences.
