학술적 글쓰기에서 대학원 유학생의 독자 고려 양상 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 사회인지주의 관점을 통해 학술적 글쓰기에서 대학원 유학생이 고려하는 독자가 무엇인지를 분석한 연구이다. 이를 위해서 ‘인식으로서의 독자’와 ‘기능으로서의 독자’를 ‘텍스트 수준별’로 나눠 살펴보았다. 상위 필자는 보고서를 ‘학술적 글쓰기’로 인식하고, 담화공동체의 구성원을 예상독자로 인식했다. 반면에 중위와 하위 필자는 보고서를 ‘학문 목적 글쓰기’로 인식하고, 담화공동체와 관련성이 떨어지는 독자들을 고려했다. 하위 필자의 경우 예상독자로 ‘자기 자신’을 인식하는 모습도 나타났다. 상위 필자의 제목은 학술적 텍스트에 적합한 선언형 제목이 나타났고, 하위 필자의 제목은 학술적 텍스트에 적절하지 않은 질문형 제목이 나타났다. 또한 상위 필자와 하위 필자 모두 중립형 제목이 있었지만, 제목이 갖고 있는 정보량에서는 큰 차이를 보였다. 상위 필자에게는 콜론을 사용한 제목 쓰기 연습이 요구되고, 하위 필자에게는 담화공동체 중심의 독자 인식과 충분한 정보량을 가진 제목 쓰기 연습이 요구된다. 이를 통해 궁극적으로 대학원 유학생은 담화공동체의 장르성에 친숙해지고 전문 저자성을 확보해야 한다.

영문 초록

This study intends to analyze who the audience that foreign graduate students target in academic writing is from the perspective of social cognitive theory. For this, ‘audience as recognition’ and ‘audience as functions’ were divided according to the level of text. High-level authors recognized reports as ‘academic writing’ and the members of a discourse community as the prospective audience. On the other hand, mid-level and low-level authors recognized reports as ‘writing to learn’ and considered audience less related to the discourse community. Some low-level authors recognized the prospective audience as ‘themselves.’ As for titles, high-level authors chose declarative titles that were proper for academic text, while some low-level authors used question titles not suitable for academic text. Although both high-level and low-level authors showed neutral titles, a significant difference was discovered in the amount of information contained in the titles. High-level authors are required to practice giving titles using a colon(:), while low-level authors need to practice it by recognizing audience centering on the discourse community and using sufficient information. Based on this, they ultimately need to be familiar with the genre of the discourse community and acquire professional authority.
