창업기업의 기술사업화 역량이 생존에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 창업기업의 기술사업화 역량이 그들의 생존에 미치는 영향을 분석한 것이다. 본 연구표본은 2009년부터 2011년 말까지 기술보증기금의 창업모형으로 평가하고 보증지원한 20,303개 기업의 평가결과를 이용하였다. 분석방법은 로짓분석을 이용하여 기간을 1년, 2년 3년으로 구분하고 시간의 흐름에 따라 생존에 미치는 요인이 어떻게 바뀌는지를 확인하였다. 분석결과는 다음과 같다. 기술사업화역량이 생존에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위한 로짓 분석에서 창업기업에 대하여 보증을 지원한 이후 1년 이내에서는 경영주역량, 기술성, 사업성이 생존에 유의한 정(+)의 관계가 있다. 2년 이내와 3년 이내에서는 경영주역량과 사업성만이 생존에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치고 있다. 창업기업 초기에는 경영주 개인역량, 기술적 역량, 사업추진역량이 생존에 중요한 요인으로 작용하고 있지만 시간이 지날수록 기술, 시장보다는 경영주 개인역량과 사업추진역량이 기업의 생존에 더 중요한 요인이다. 일반적으로 시장성이나 기술성이 높은 기업이 생존에 유리할 것으로 추정할 수 있지만 본 연구에서는 생존에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않거나 미친다 하더라도 짧은 기간에 그친다는 것을 확인하였다. 본 연구결과는 자원이 취약한 창업기업 특성을 감안하여 정성적이고 비재무적인 측정도구를 활용하여 생존에 미치는 영향을 검증함으로써 창업기업의 지원대상 선별과 지원방향 결정에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

This paper empirically examines the impact of start-ups’ technology-commercialization competence on their survival. This study utilizes, as the sample data, the 20,203 appraisal results of KTRS-Startup, the technology rating model through which Korea Technology Finance Corporation (KOTEC) has appraised and provided credit guarantees from 2009 to 2011. The research identifies which factors affect the survival of companies and how they change as the time passed by, as it adopts the logistic regression model, as an analysis tool, and divides periods into one year, two year and three year. The analyses are as follows: The result of this study shows that the survival of start-ups is positively correlated - in a statistically significant level - with the appraisal results on the business owner’s capacity, technology level and business capability within one year after providing credit guarantees. Within 2 to 3 year providing credit guarantees, only business owner’s capacity and business capability have a positive impact on the survival of start-ups. This study is expected to be helpful to screen the promising startups and decide government support to them in that it investigates how qualitative and non-financial measures affect the survival of startups as it considers the startups’ situation lacking resources.
