중국의 수출성과와 FDI 유입에 대한 분석

국문 초록

최근까지 FDI 유입과 거시경제지표 변수의 유의성을 검증하는 분석이 많이 시도되고 있다. 본 논문은 1992년부터 2006년까지 중국에 투자한 주요 6개국의 자료를 이용하여, 중국의 FDI 유입에 있어 중요한 결정 요인이 무엇인가를 밝히는데 중점을 두었다. 본 논문에서는 기존의 중력모델에서 사용한 시장의 크기와 거리 변수는 물론 경제성장률, 1인당 개인소득의 격차, 수출 및 환율 등의 거시경제 변수를 추가한 수정된 중력모델을 통해 이들 변수가 중국의 FDI 유입에 어떤 영향을 주었는가를 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 기존의 중력변수 중 GDP를 제외한 1인당 개인소득의 격차와 거리 변수는 중국의 FDI 유입에 각각 긍정적, 부정적인 영향을 주었으며 또한 유의적인 것으로 나타났다. 중국 정부의 적극적인 수출지향적인(export-orientated) 정책으로 인해 수출의 증가와 지속적인 환율의 평가 절상은 중국의 FDI 유입에 매우 긍정적인 영향을 준 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The link between growth of exports and inward FDI in China continues to be debated and tested in the literature on international economics and development economics. The purpose of this paper is to extend and develop the previous research framework and provide new results with respect to the issue of inward FDI flow in China. To this end, this paper attempts to find out what the main determinants of inward FDI in China. This paper investigated the issue using panel data at the national level in the period of 1992 through 2006 and incorporated modified gravity model to do this. This paper applies new variables such as economic growth rate, exports growth, per capita GDP, exchange rate, in addition to GDP and distance variables which are often used in traditional gravity model. Our empirical results shows that these variables have a positive sign and statistically significant role on increasing the FDI in China. In other words, the findings suggests that the growth of exports seems to promote the FDI inflow and this positive effect seems to rise over time. The findings support the widely held belief that increased level of exports and exchange rates have a positively impact on the inward FDI inflow in China. On the other hand, it also anticipated that because of the current financial crisis in the world, the current trends of FDI in China will not be continued and it will be declined for the time being.
