문화 리터러시 관점에서 본 한국어 관용 표현 교육에 관한 고찰

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 문화 리터러시 함양을 위한 관용 표현 교육의 중요성을 밝히고, 주요 한국어 교재에 나타난 관용 표현을 ‘이해(의미 제시 및 이해 활동), 사용(사용 맥락에 관한 정보 및 사용 절차 제시, 사용 활동), 사회 및 문화 간의 연결(지식 제시 및 지식 연결 활동)’의 관점에서 통합 교재 3종, 문화 교재 3종, TOPIK 어휘 교재 2종을 분석하였다. 교재 분석 결과 한국어 학습자의 문화 리터러시 함양을 위해서는 세 가지 차원에서 균형적인 교육이 이루어져야 하지만 교재 분석 결과 ‘사용’ 차원에서의 사용을 위한 맥락 제시 및 사용으로 나아가기 위한 절차와 활동이 부족한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 향후 문화 리터러시 함양을 위한 관용 표현 교육은 사용 차원의 보완이 이루어져야 한다. 이를 위해서는 관용 표현의 실제적인 사용 맥락에 대한 분석이 필요하며, 이를 통해 추출된 화용 정보가 교육에 반영되어야 한다. 구체적으로는 관용 표현이 사용되는 맥락에 대한 화용 정보가 교재에 제시되는 예문 및 대화문 등을 통해 노출되어야 하며, 관용 표현 사용을 위한 절차와 활동을 학습자 숙달도에 따라 구체적으로 제시할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

This aimed to reveal the importance of education on idiomatic expressions for fostering cultural literacy. It analyzed the educational features of idiomatic expressions appearing in Korean language teaching materials: three comprehensive, three cultural, and two Test Of Proficiency In Korean(TOPIK) vocabulary. The analysis was conducted in three dimensions: understanding (presentation of meaning, activities for confirmation of understanding); use (presentation of context, procedures, and activities for use); and connection between society and culture (presentation of knowledge about certain societies and cultures, activities for constructing new knowledge). To foster the cultural literacy of Korean learners, a balance among the three dimensions should be achieved. However, the analysis results show a lack of consideration in terms of the “use” dimension. Therefore, in the future, education on idiomatic expressions should further consider pragmatic information as contexts in which expressions are used. Specifically, pragmatic information about the context in which idiomatic expressions are used should be exposed through examples and dialogue presented in the educational materials. Further, it is necessary to present proper procedures and activities for using idiomatic expressions, according to learner proficiency.
