드럼 교육에서의 합주 역량 증진을 위한 플립러닝 활용 사례연구

국문 초록

드럼은 다른 악기들과 함께 연주하는 상황이 많기 때문에 드럼 교육은 학습자의 합주역량을 향상시킬 수 있도록 설계되어야 한다. 하지만 현재 국내 대학의 드럼 전공실기 수업은 드럼 전공자의 합주역량을 증진시키는 데 어려움이 있다. 개인 레슨에 해당하는 드럼 전공실기 수업 경우 시간 부족, 진도 문제, 교실 환경의 문제로 수업 대부분을 리듬 패턴, 필인, 솔로 등의 기초적인 부분과 테크닉적인 부분에 할애하고 있으며, 합주 수업의 경우, 드럼 전공 학습자에게 맞춤형 피드백을 제공하는 데 어려움이 있다. 이 연구는 대학의 현실적인 제약을 고려하는 동시에 합주 역량을 향상하기 위한 방법으로 드럼 전공실기 수업에서 플립러닝 방법의 적용 가능성을 탐구할 목적으로 시행되었다. 이 연구는 드럼 전공실기 레슨을 수강하고 있는 학습자 2명을 대상으로 하였다. 전체 수업은 3주간 진행되었으며 합주 상황에서의 Rock Drumming이라는 주제로 플립러닝을 설계하였다. 1주차의 수업은 합주를 위해 기본적인 테크닉을 배우는 수업으로 설계하였다. 2주차의 수업부터 3주차 수업까지 합주능력을 향상시키기 위한 수업으로 설계하였다. 플립러닝에 대한 학습자 효과를 파악하기 위해 인터뷰를 통해 질적 형태의 자료를 수집하였고 이를 분석하였다. 연구 결과 학습자의 인지 및 심동적, 정의적 측면에서의 합주 역량 효과뿐만 아니라, 수업 중 상호작용 증가 등을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구는 합주역량 증진을 위해 개인 레슨인 드럼 전공실기 수업만을 다루고 있다는 점에서 일부 제한점을 지닌다. 그러므로 추후 합주 실기 수업에서의 합주역량 증진을 위한 플립러닝 적용 가능성 등을 탐색할 필요성이 있다.

영문 초록

As drums are played along with other instruments, drum education should be designed to improve learners’ ensemble competency. However, practical classes at universities have difficulty enhancing the ensemble competency of students who are majoring in drums. In the case of private drum lessons, most classes are devoted to basic and technical aspects such as rhythmic patterns, fills and soloing, owing to time and classroom environment constraints. The public setting of ensemble practice lessons hinders the instructor’s ability to provide customized feedback for each instrument. This study aimed to investigate the possibility of applying flipped learning as an enhancement method for ensemble competency in university drum lessons of contemporary music. The study was conducted on two students taking drum lessons. Flipped learning lessons were conducted on a rock drumming theme in ensemble situations for three weeks. The first week was designed to teach basic ensemble techniques. From the second to the third week, classes were designed to improve ensemble ability. Qualitative data were collected and analyzed from in-depth interviews with students after all lessons. The results of this study indicate positive effects such as cognitive and psychomotor improvement of learners’ ensemble competency and increased interaction between the instructor and the students. This study has some limitations in that it only examines individual lessons to enhance ensemble competency. Therefore future studies should explore applying flipped learning to enhance ensemble competency in ensemble classes.
